3 Surprising Transfers That Could Still Happen This January Involving Arsenal, Tottenham And Others

Philippe Mexes:

Many of the readers will be surprised to find the Frenchman on the list. The 31 year old however has fallen down the pecking order at AC Milan with new manager Clarence Seedorf not being a fan of the defender. With the world cup away in about five month’s time, Mexes will have to consider his options away from the Rossoneri to secure a place in Didier Deschamps’ side in Brazil. The former Roma player who joined Milan on a free transfer in 2011 still has some of his years in him. His exquisite game reading ability, no nonsense defending and the willingness to take shots from distance shows why he would be a small term solution for a side who don’t have a flashy centre back pairing amongst them. A lesser Premier League side can snap him up by the next seventy two hours before the January Transfer Window slams shut. Post summer, he would fit in any side who agree to pay his significantly high wages.

Mario Mandzukic:

Certainly not a no brainer, is it? I for one feel certainly not. It’s quite evident that Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are all in search of a lethal striker up front who can solve their goal scoring woes in the final third. A player of Mandzukic’s quality should invigorate to splurge any fiscal ramification for the Croatian. With Bayern already announcing the pre contract agreement for Robert Lewandowski for next season, Madzukic’s time might well be over at the Bavarian club.

The club has already announced that Mandzukic can leave before the end of this window, which surely means if Arsenal do go in for the striker they can land him. The Croat is a prolific striker who has an enviable strike rate. Moves such as this require perfect timing and with the pieces in the jigsaw falling at the right time, who knows if either of Mourinho or Wenger land a major coup for a striker who knows where the back of the net is and is a proven goal scorer domestically as well as in Europe’s elite competition, in the Champions League.

Christian Benteke:

The Belgian hasn’t been prolific like last season, however there is no denying the fact that he has struggled for the majority of this campaign and has been affected by injuries. Benteke will bring that extra zip in attack and an impeccable strength into any side, a fresh sense of exuberance which is missing in the final third for majority of teams who are unable to break down a rugged defence. Aston Villa will find it very hard to keep the young Belgian even though his contract with the Claret and Blue is until 2017, however situations change in a matter of seconds in football. Benteke’s signature on the dotted papers will be wanted by many clubs across Europe, however his future is surely in the Premier League with Tottenham to be the latest club linked with a shocking move.
