3 Super Creative Players Manchester United Should Buy To Reignite That Spark

Share

One thing which strikes you at first about the current Manchester United side is the lack of creativity up front. There is just risk taking which makes for an awfully boring game, till now they have managed to cross the line but only just, it won’t be long before other teams start to hurt them for their lack of creativity. The likes of Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Memphis Depay have struggled to generate excitement in the Old Trafford stands. It was only last week when in the first half against Southampton, United fans came together to let the manager know what they wanted to see, shouts of ATTACK, ATTACK echoed around the famous ground. So what is the solution? Which midfielder could spark United back into life? It seems the solution has to come from the outside, players at United have been given enough chances, although Manager Van Gaal’s tactics haven’t helped their cause either. Here we look at 3 creative midfielders/forwards who could change the way this United team plays in the future.

  1. Antoine Griezmann
Antoine Griezmann

Since transferring to Diego Simeone’s Atletico from Real Sociedad, the Griezmann has improved significantly and is regarded as one of Europe’s finest attacking players. Still relatively young at 24, Griezmann is approaching the peak of his career and it would be wise for United to snap him up before some other club do. Played primarily in the wide attacking left position, Griezmann could also easily fit in behind the striker and provide those killer passes. His recruitment could spell trouble for Memphis Depay, who will need to better his game in order to ensure a starting place. His attacking style, combined with pace to burn down the flanks, getting crosses in and getting into the middle to strike powerful efforts on goal would keep supporters in the stands happy.

2. Ross Barkley

Under Van Gaal’s rigid philosophy, United have been crying out for someone who isn’t afraid to express themselves and take risks on the pitch and Everton’s Ross Barkley certainly fits the bill. The 22-year-old is at his best when he operates just behind the main striker but can also play as a central midfielder. Despite his age, Barkley is already renowned for his vision, creativity and ability to find pockets of space on the pitch. Not only is Barkley powerful on the ball, but the Englishman offers trickery and a clinical finish.

3. Riyad Mahrez

One player who has caught the attention of everyone this season is Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez, who already has 14 goals in all competitions this season and 7 assists. Mahrez has a magical left foot which allows him to run into empty spaces, and then uses his mazy dribbling and rapid pace to get the better of his opposition. He could just be the man United need right now, his enormous pool of energy will come in handy when United decide to play a pressing game against bigger teams. Although it must be made clear that he won’t come cheaply and Leicester will need to pressurized into letting their star player go.
