3 Solid reasons why this veteran Scot is the right man to take over as Stoke City boss

Share

According to a report by The Mirror, former West Ham United boss David Moyes is a leading contender to take charge of the relegated Stoke City.

Moyes’ short-term deal with the Hammers came to an end recently, meaning he is available now. On the flipside, Paul Lambert was unceremoniously sacked as the Potters succumbed to relegation.

Now, it seems like Stoke are keen to appoint Moyes as their new manager and that does seem like a step in the right direction.

Stoke will now compete in the Championship and as they look to fight their way back into the top-flight, a manager like Moyes could come in handy. He has first-hand experience in dealing with tough situations and Moyes has proven to be somebody who can steady the sails.

He might not win major trophies but he knows how to re-build a squad. With that in mind, here are 3 reasons as to why Stoke must appoint him as their new manager.

Ample experience

Moyes fits the bill all too well since he has plenty of experience in the Championship as well as the Premier League. He has worked with Everton, Manchester United and West Ham United, and crisis management seems to be his forte.

Barring the Toffees, Moyes was brought in to manage the crisis at both United and West Ham and it is safe to say that he did well.

At United, Moyes did not receive enough time but with West Ham, he literally saved them from relegation and guided them to a respectable 13th-place finish. All his experience will prove to be fruitful as Stoke will be pushing for a promotion next season.

Ability to bring teams back on track

As mentioned earlier, crisis management seems to be Moyes’ strongest suit. Too much ambition or the lack of it can seriously jeopardise a team that’s going through a rebuilding phase. But with Moyes, his passion and hunger for success are apparent but not over-powering.

Also, he boasts of excellent technical know-how as well and given the rich plethora of talent brewing at Stoke, Moyes could work wonders.

Strict adherence to discipline

Over the recently concluded Premier League season, the Stoke team seemed to lack discipline, in general.

Much like how Sir Alex Ferguson cleaned up Manchester United’s drinking nature at one point, Moyes will have to bring about serious changes to ensure the players at Stoke pay heed to a rigid yet disciplined structure.

As we have seen from his time at Everton and West Ham, the Scotsman often prioritises discipline among his players and Stoke will be hoping for something similar.
