The club did not make too many additions over the summer and it seems like that decision is costing them since a series of injuries and slump in form suffered by main players have truly affected their chances of making a title challenge. Now, all they can do is fight for a top-4 spot because it seems like an uphill task to catch Manchester City.

Ross Barkley – Everton

Barkley was linked with Spurs over the summer and the club could re-ignite their interest in him but that might not be the best idea. He almost secured a move to Chelsea but that fell apart at the last minute. Although he has continued playing for Everton, the player has either lacked form or has been absent due to injuries. For Tottenham to sign a player who could prove to be a liability at a time like this, is truly unnecessary.

Gareth Bale – Real Madrid

Once upon a time, Bale was Tottenham’s heart and soul – much like Harry Kane right now. However, that time has passed and the Welshman almost seems like a different player at the Santiago Bernabeu. Given the fact that he is prone to injuries, Bale has not really progressed or achieved much ever since he moved there. His age also could be a factor, especially since Los Blancos will demand a hefty amount for him. For the same amount, Spurs could easily get 2 top-class wingers who can offer better things than Bale.

Andre Gomes – Barcelona

Gomes joined the Catalans from Valencia in 2016 but will he receive better chances of first-team action at Tottenham? Most likely not. Harry Winks has been quite pivotal to Spurs’ fortunes this term whereas Mousa Dembele has been quite influential as well. Arguably, Gomes could come in as a backup option but there are far more pressing concerns for Pochettino to address in the January window instead of splashing money on a player who may or may not be needed immediately.
