3 Reasons Why This Legend’s Return To Manchester United Would Work Wonders

Share

Like a crazy love story about ex’s and current loves, the transfer window throws a few rather crazy rumors and the latest rumor coming out from Italy is that Nemanja Vidic, who joined Inter Milan at the start of the season might be on his way out and he is heading back to the Premier League to re-join the club he left in the summer, Manchester United.

Vidic had left Manchester United as his contract had ended with the Manchester club and he joined Inter Milan on a free transfer at the start of the season. He was expected to do better in the Italian league since it isn’t as tough as the Premier League but he hasn’t set the league alight with his defensive ability and has been caught out in a lot of games when playing for Inter.

Vidic

Coming back to United would not be the worst decision taken by Vidic and by United, here are 3 reasons why Vidic coming back to Manchester United would work.

1. Experience in an inexperienced defense

Apart from Evans and Smalling, none of the other Manchester United defenders have had a lot of experience playing in the Premier League. McNair and Rojo are young and have barely played enough games to get a grip of the league.

Vidic has won the Premier League 5 times and has played 300 games for United, he knows the club well and can still do a job. United are not playing a lot of games this season and he can come into the back 3 or 4 and can bring some experience and communication into the defense.

2. Can still play at the top level

Vidic can still play at the top level, while his start at Inter hasn’t been the best, he has become more accustomed to the game in Italy. The more important factor in bringing Vidic back is that he would be playing in a back 3 which would not expose his lack of pace from the recent years.

Vidic can still marshal a defense well which is something that has been missing in the Manchester United defense this season, he can still head a ball really well and is strong in one on ones. It was a bit of a surprise when he left United at the end of the season since other experienced players like Ferdinand and Evra had also left, he was the one of the trio who still has a couple of good years still left in him.

3. Cheap and available

Bringing in Vidic for a year or a year and a half would be the best deal for Manchester United. They would have to pay a fee to Inter Milan but that should not be a huge amount to get a 33 year old defender back. Vidic was always loved by the United faithful and could do the job for Manchester United especially with the injuries that have hit them this season.

Chris Smalling is the latest player to suffer an injury and Marcos Rojo had already faced time out from the team a month back, so a cheap and known player who is willing to come back to United makes sense. Plus he wouldn’t have to play in midweek fixtures which would certainly help his performance.
