3 Reasons Why Loic Remy Would Be A Bad Idea For Arsenal

Share

Newcastle United striker Loic Remy has been linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer when his loan deal from Queen’s Park Rangers expires in the summer. Here are three reasons why Arsenal should not go ahead with the deal.

1. Creates Too Little

Arsenal is a team that thrives on creativity and all the players are expected to contribute in an offensive capacity and create chances for team mates. While Remy has netted 13 goals this season and has been outstanding at times for Newcastle, Remy has created too few chances for his teammates to be an effective option upfront for Arsenal.

At Arsenal, even the strikers are expected to create chances and in that department, Remy is lacking. He has created only 25 chances in 23 appearances or just about one chance created per game which is not quite the level that is expected of an Arsenal attacker.

2.Not Enough Defensive Contributions

At Arsenal, the team is built in a balanced manner and all players are expected to contribute in all aspects and press from the front in a bid to put pressure on their opponents. If Remy is to slot into the Arsenal side, he too will be expected to do the same and put in a shift for the team every week.

However, Remy’s numbers for Newcastle suggest that he has very little interest in tracking back and helping out the team. He has a total of 4 interceptions and 6 clearances in the 23 appearances indicating that he is not the right fit to be Arsenal’s front man and press from the front.

3.Inconsistency

Remy has the quality to make it at the highest level as evidence by some his performances for Newcastle this season. Some of his goals have been brilliant and he has put in great individual performances to win Newcastle games.

However, at the same time, he is far from consistent and rarely found the back of the net in a crucial run of fixtures in December and January which meant that Newcastle had a tough run in that period. Add to that the fact that he has been sent off already this season for violent conduct against Norwich and one isn’t so sure that he should be the man for Arsenal.
