The battle for the signature of one of the best players from the Premier League season last year is intensifying with Chelsea and Arsenal both in the running to bring the Algerian to London. It really is a tug of war and it is no surprise to be honest, Mahrez is such a player who can turn things around in a flash and every team would love to have the 25-year-old on their side.
Both London clubs have tabled huge bids for the Leicester City attacker but Mahrez can only choose one side and both sides have their pros and cons. Chelsea might not have had the best season last year but under Antonio Conte, it seems the team is heading in the right direction and Mahrez should contemplate moving to the blue half of London rather than the red.
Here are three reasons why Stamford Bridge is the right option for the Algerian instead of the Emirates.
A new manager coming in isn’t always the best thing for the current crop of players at the club but Mahrez would be a new signing and he would be one of the players that is brought in to change things up at the club.
Antonio Conte is one of the best managers in the world and working under him would certainly help Mahrez get better in the defensive aspect of the game. It isn’t to say that Mahrez will not get better in attack and with Chelsea looking at a new direction this season and the positive energy back at the club; Chelsea does seem to be a more buoyant club at the moment than Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger might be one of the most respected managers in the world but he is a bit of a one trick pony more often than not. When things do not go his way, the team crumble and that is something that Leicester did not do last season.
Chelsea have brought in Conte who was exemplary with his tactics during his time with Juventus and Italy and he would be able to get the most out of the players this season at the Blues. Mahrez would obviously learn more under the Italian than the Frenchman at the moment and with someone who is willing to adapt and work things around to help a side that isn’t doing well.
While Arsenal have big names such as Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez who have performed well over time, last season was a disaster for Chelsea with no player actually stepping up. The Blues will need someone who can turn things around and win games for them this season.
Mahrez might be the best player at Chelsea thanks to the appalling season they had last season and maybe he does want to move up a notch and become the main player for a relatively bigger club than Leicester City.
Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas were poor; no doubts about it and it could be time for the Algerian to become Mr. Chelsea this season, something that might appeal to him than playing as one of the three or four at Arsenal.
Whatever happens and whichever club he does move to, Mahrez will be the game changer and Chelsea would definitely benefit from the Algerian joining the side more than Arsenal.
