3 Reasons Why Arsenal Should Not Sell This Spanish Wizard No Matter What

Share

Well, now we are getting ominous rumours about the twinkle toed Arsenal star Santi Cazorla being targeted by Atletico Madrid. While the player would be well within the financial reach of Atletico, Arsenal must seriously look into holding the player in North London, especially after two seasons of wonderful performances and now, also winning the FA Cup. Here are three reasons why the move is detrimental to Arsenal.

1. Cazorla has been the most consistent attacking midfielder for the Gunners

He breathes for the Gunners, as we can easily see that he is willing to work for the team and play in any attacking position and has delivered the goods. After playing in the centre in his first season, where he dazzled immensely, he willingly agreed to play wide with Ozil occupying the number 10 role. Santi Cazorla has still accumulated a tally of 4 goals and 8 assists while making 31 appearances in the league, which speaks volumes on the adjusting capacity and consistency of the Spaniard.

2. Cazorla’s defensive contribution fits perfectly in Arsenal’s teamwork based defensive tactics

Santi Cazorla doesn’t shy away from defensive duties. This has probably made him an Atletico target as the Spanish club rely on players who work hard on the pitch. Arsenal’s core consists of players who work hard and also have players who don’t work hard enough. With the likes of Ozil and Arteta repeatedly criticized for their inability to defend but Cazorla is among the few attackers in the world who is comfortable in doing his bit of tracking back. 45 tackles and 31 interceptions justify the work he does defensively as well. So when the philosophy of Arsenal is executed on the pitch, where the team defends as a whole, Cazorla fits in perfectly.

3. Cazorla has fight in him

We remember the sweetly struck goal against Man Utd away at Old Trafford in 2012-13 season where Robin van Persie had scored against his old club. Cazorla was the only one who was like a spark for the Gunners and got a goal late into the game when the match was 2-0 in favour of the Red Devils. His matches against other teams like this season’s home match against Manchester City, where he didn’t score but dictated the Gunners’ game and leading them to a 1-1 draw and the FA Cup final where he started the comeback against Hull City are all indications that Cazorla has the fight in him to go on till the end. Also one of the most disappointing matches for Arsenal, the 6-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge also saw Santi Cazorla being the only Arsenal player fighting his heart out and showcasing his skills and flair. His talent is unquestionable and his performances have always been up to the mark making him one of the manager’s favourite players. A thorough professional, Cazorla has settled in the Premier League and has proved himself. Selling him for as cheap as 18-20 million when he can have at least 2-3 seasons of similar intensity can be a majorly disappointing transfer for Arsenal supporters.
