3 Reasons Why Tottenham Hotspur Are The Unsung Contenders Of The Premier League Title This Season

Share

Mauricio Pochettino’s side brushed aside Tony Pulis’ West Brom side past weekend as they followed their victory over Chelsea in the last round with a bang. They have now stitched a 6 game winning streak in the Premier League and have slowly moved up the points table. They are currently in the 2nd place, 7 points off Chelsea at the top and the manager will hope that his side can compete for the title for the second year running. Though the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City are all fighting for the crown, Pochettino’s side have slowly pushed everyone down and will only have to be consistent

Though the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City are all fighting for the crown, Pochettino’s side have slowly pushed everyone down and will only have to be consistent until the end of the season to stand a shot at the silverware. Though not the favourites, the Spurs side are definitely an unsung contenders of the title and here are three reasons why:

Squad Depth:

Though not the strongest squads in Europe, Pochettino’s side have some decent players in their squad that can help them in crunch times. The likes of Erik Lamela, Kevin N’Koudou, Moussa Sissoko and Vincent Janssen are all top class players but have not been regulars in the first team – mainly due to the their recent form and injuries – although, they’ll get better with time. Eric Dier and Ben Davies have also found it hard to cement a place in the first team and with a bench this strong, the side is certainly well equipped for the title race. All they need is their fringe players to find some form.

Lack of consistency elsewhere:

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are the other sides expected to take part in this title race but Spurs have been the most consistent of all the teams. Chelsea have been exceptional and are favourites but the Spurs side have been the most consistent side after the Blues, as they managed to stay strong and move to the 2nd place in the table.

All the big clubs have managed to drop points when least expected but this team has been consistent in grinding results out and is looking like a side that can go all the way. Surely, if Chelsea slips up, their London rivals are in a great position to roll them over.

Kane and Alli combination:

The English duo was all over the Baggies in the recent victory at the Lane and Pochettino will know that it is a partnership that can blow teams away and give them the required results. Kane and his finishing has been complimented well by Alli’s vision and passing and both players seem to have derived confidence from each other and are currently one of the most productive pairs in the Premier League. Their chemistry is getting better and better every week and if Pochettino can keep this duo together for most games this season, he need not worry too much about failing to score enough goals.

Do you think the Spurs have a shot at the Premier League title this season?
