While Manuel Pellegrini was a very capable manager, Man City had clearly regressed towards the end of his tenure. They’re not the only Manchester team that didn’t live up to the mark last season. Manchester United had a mediocre season despite winning the FA Cup. A fifth place finish means they will miss out on Champions League football for the second time in 3 years. Both clubs have shown they mean business though by hiring two of the best managers in the current era in Guardiola and Mourinho. They both share a history of course. Mourinho was first an interpreter and then a member of the coaching staff at Barcelona while Guardiola was a player at the Catalan club. The former then went on to manage rivals Real Madrid leading to a League title finishing ahead of Guardiola’s Barcelona. The rivalry is now set to renew itself in one of the most competitive leagues in the world.

Pep Guardiola- The Spaniard is a master tactician. His teams are known to play beautiful football, dominating possession while moving the ball around quickly and applying large amounts of pressure when not on the ball. He’s also great at developing youth players, something City haven’t done in a long while. He’ll also be able to bring out the best in certain players who have been underperforming. His presence adds a completely different dimension to the United derby this season, especially with Mourinho at the helm at United. Ever since he’s taken over, most people think City are favourites for the title.

Some of the signings that City have made like Ilkay Gundogan, Nolito and Leroy Sane are astute and clever moves. All three of these players are promising and would fit right into the City XI especially with the likes of Toure and Sterling not really performing to their capabilities. One of the things an incoming manager has to do rebuild the squad many times. With many players not living up to potential, Guardiola has moved very quickly snapping up his targets in the transfer window.

While the likes of Sergio Aguero have been terrific season after season for City, they might be even more dangerous now under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola. While Mancini and Pellegrini are good coaches, Guardiola is in a different league. And if Aguero remains fit, he can reach a different level this season. Even with all his injuries last season, he was up there and competing for the Golden Boot.
