3 Reasons Why This Left-Footed Dribbler Has No Future At Liverpool

Liverpool’s Serbian winger – Lazar Markovic – has failed to kick-start a flagging career at Sporting Lisbon following a season-long loan at the Portuguese outfit, and the club recently terminated his deal after he failed to impress thus far.

The 22-year-old was acquired for £20million from Benfica in the summer of 2014 following a splendid campaign that saw him help the side to a local treble and a continental success which saw them end up as the Europa League runners up in 2013-14.

He has been a shadow of himself since, failing to make the team in his only season at Anfield while a loan spell to Fenerbahçe last season was plagued with injury.

Markovic doesn’t appear capable of ever living up to those initial expectations that saw Brendan Rodgers pursue his services in the first place, and sanctioning his sales, as opposed to another loan term will be an ideal deal for Liverpool.

Here are 3 reasons why:

He won’t be making the Liverpool team anytime soon

With the quality of wingers and forwards at Liverpool at the moment, it’s safe to say Lazar Markovic would be surplus to requirements now or in the summer when he was initially scheduled to make a return.

The Serbian had an opportunity to impress Klopp during the pre-season but didn’t do enough to be considered for a place on the bench, with a much younger and less experienced Sheyi Ojo given the nod to stay.

The Liverpool first team is currently not for average players, and Markovic is less than average right now having fallen out of the selection at a club like Lisbon.

With the club set for a likely return to the Champions League next term, a few quality additions will likely be added, and Lazar Markovic doesn’t fit that description.

He was never a big-club signing in the first place

Markovic might have excelled at Benfica some 3 seasons ago, but he’s obviously far from the type of player that excels at the big clubs.

While he can still make something out of his career as he’s just 22, and Anfield or any other European big side might not exactly be the best place for him.

His struggles with the Turkish and Portuguese giants are perhaps a proof to the fact that he isn’t fit to make it in a big side.

Recently, Hull City have announced that they have completed the signing of the 22-year-old on loan and now, he will make the team at the KCOM Stadium.

Like the Arnautovics and Shaqiris, Markovic seems the type of player perfect just for the middle table clubs.

The earlier he’s permanently discarded, the better

2 loan deals are enough to prove that the winger isn’t able to come any close to living up to his £20million price tag, and Liverpool must realise this on time.

He very much likely will cost less than half of that fees right now as his market value continues to plummet, and it’s best to let him go on a permanent basis as Klopp won’t be getting convinced of his quality anytime soon.

Markovic is better off being removed from Liverpool’s books on a permanent basis, in order to allow for another non home-grown talent to take his spot as the team prepares for the coming campaigns.
