3 Reasons Why The Chelsea We All Know Is Back: Costa Firing On All Cylinders

Share

Chelsea might be Arsenal’s voodoo team but their recent performances under Guus Hiddink does show that the team are slowly but surely getting back to their best. Chelsea haven’t tasted defeat under Hiddink and have only conceded seven goals in as many games, certainly a better record than under Jose Mourinho this season.

Hiddink does have a great record with Chelsea, he was their former interim manager in 2009 as well when he led them to FA Cup glory and it seems that the players take up well to the Dutch manager, something that was the complete opposite, or at least it seemed so under Jose Mourinho but surely it has to be much more than that.

Chelsea seem leaner, meaner and better under Hiddink and here are three reasons why they are getting back to their best.

  1. Diego Costa is firing again

Diego Costa

Diego Costa was one of the players who seemed to have gone off the boil under Jose Mourinho this season but ever since Guus Hiddink has taken over, the Spaniard has been scoring goals similar to what he did last season when he took Chelsea to the title.

Eden Hazard might not be playing all that well this year and that had put more pressure on the Spaniard but Costa seems to be repaying the fact that Mourinho has left the club and the striker is getting those goals and looking like a threat who can cause some damage to defences but only by scoring and not punching or fighting his way through the 90 minutes.

2. Cesc Fabregas’ form is on the up

Cesc Fabregas

Another player who was ousted, wrongfully, as the one who was leaking information about Jose Mourinho and was the centre of the revolt against him, Cesc Fabregas’ form has slowly gained momentum and his best display came in the 1-0 win over Arsenal.

Many fans would remember Fabregas’ woeful performance against Tottenham earlier in the season but he certainly is playing better and it isn’t a coincidence that Chelsea are doing better with a Fabregas who is finding hi range of passing once again.

3. Players seem happier

Cesc and Costa

They may be grown men but even footballers are fragile beings who need to be pampered once in a while and given freedom to express themselves. Guus Hiddink might not be an easy manager or someone who gives total freedom to the team but the players do seem much better under him and certainly the chains seem to have come off.

Chelsea aren’t playing great football but there is a lot more camaraderie and team spirit than what was on display during Mourinho’s second season for the Blues. Certainly Hiddink is one reason why the Blues are doing so well and hopefully he can lead them so some success at the end of the season.
