3 Quality former transfer targets who Celtic could revisit this summer including Liverpool duo

Celtic continued to make history under Brendan Rodgers as they clinched their 2nd consecutive domestic treble, in the 2017/18 campaign.

The Hoops had another brilliant season in the domestic circuit, although the manager will be somewhat worried about the dip in performances and results over the course of the campaign, compared to the standards set by the invincibles of the 2016/17 term.

Ahead of the summer transfer window, the club and the manager will be lining up a number of new transfer targets this summer in order to continue their domination on their domestic rivals.

At the same time, it wouldn’t be the worst idea for the club to revisit some of their targets from the previous transfer windows. Here are three such players, who Celtic were linked to in the past and who the club should pursue again.

Dominic Solanke (Liverpool)

Celtic were actively pursuing the signing of striker Dominic Solanke last summer when it became clear that he was leaving Chelsea but were beaten by Rodgers’ former club, Liverpool. However, things haven’t really worked out too well for the 20-year-old at Anfield, with game time hardly coming his way. Celtic should make a move for the striker again. 

Despite a difficult debut campaign with the Reds, which culminated with him netting just a single goal that came on the final day of the Premier League season, Solanke’s goalscoring exploits during his days with the youth teams at Chelsea and away on loan at Vitesse Arnhem are evidence of his abilities and potential.

The youngster is fast, strong and has the natural instinct for goal. If given regular playing time, he could be a constant source of goals for Celtic.

Nick Powell (Wigan Athletic)

The former Manchester United midfielder was on the radar of Celtic not very long ago and following the excellent season that he had with Wigan Athletic, the Hoops should look to pursue his signature once again in the summer.  

The 24-year-old netted 15 goals in 39 League One games and went on to create 7 more for his teammates, playing a vital role in firing the Latics to the league triumph and promotion back to the EFL Championship. Nominated for the Sky Bet League One Player of the Year award, Powell also featured in the division’s PFA Team of the Year.

A midfielder with a great technical ability and the penchant to score and create goals in plenty, Powell has shown a lot of promise and could prove to be an excellent addition for the Scottish champions.

Harry Wilson (Liverpool)

With on-loan winger Patrick Roberts returning to parent club Manchester City after an extremely successive spell at the Parkhead, the Hoops will have a vacancy in the attacking department, which they can fill by signing Liverpool’s rising star Harry Wilson. 

The 21-year-old was linked with a move to Celtic last summer but no move materialised. In the first half of the 2017/18 season, Wilson turned out for the Reds’ reserves and netted 10 goals in 12 Premier League 2 appearances before leaving for Hull City in January.

During his time with the Tigers, the Welshman scored 7 times and assisted 4 more, helping them stave off relegation from the Championship.

A pacey attacker who can play in any position in the attacking third, Wilson would add another dimension to the Hoops’ forward line. Given that their arch-rivals Rangers are keen on signing him, it will be a bitter blow to the Gers if Celtic beat them to his signature.
