Three Premier League Strikers Who Brighton Can Target In The Summer

Glenn Murray did a sterling job for Brighton this season in the Championship, netting 23 times in 45 games to spearhead the south coast side’s title challenge. Tomer Hemed chipped in with 11 from 37 too but neither player appears to be good enough to drag Brighton up the Premier League table.

In truth, Brighton had some major luck this season. Murray, Knockaert, Stephens, Dunk, and Stockdale were the major contributors and all of them managed full seasons. Over at Newcastle for example, Shelvey, Gayle, Clark, and Hayden all had extended spells on the sidelines and had that not happened, the gap between the two clubs may actually have been much larger.

With this in mind, not only do Brighton perhaps need to replace their no.9 but will need to have plenty of reinforcements in the squad to cover the potential injuries and suspensions. Nowhere is that more important than up front, and here we look at three strikers from the Premier League who clubs Brighton can target:

Troy Deeney (Watford)

At 28, Deeney still has plenty to offer in the Premier League. Watford are a club not particularly going anywhere at present, and with at least 2 strong looking sides coming up from the Championship and the fodder of Sunderland and Middlesbrough having disappeared, Watford will be in serious danger of going down in a year’s time.

Deeney will be aware of this and may want a different sort of challenge; playing up front and being supplied by Anthony Knockaert would surely fit the bill for the big man. 10 goals and 4 assists in the top league this season show that Deeney is as good as ever and could represent value.

Benik Afobe (Bournemouth)

Should star man Joshua King decide to stay at Bournemouth, it could mean curtains for either Afobe or Callum Wilson at the club. Afobe may be the better bet for Brighton, with him being slightly younger than Wilson and having produced the same goals as him this season from a similar number of starts, while providing 3 assists more than him as well.

Tammy Abraham (Chelsea)

He is definitely a player going places but at 19, Abraham will struggle to get a foothold in the Chelsea squad over the summer and may well look for opportunities elsewhere. Abraham scored 38% of Bristol City’s goals in the Championship while on loan there last season and will only improve.

His total of 23 league goals, equal with promoted pair Glenn Murray of Brighton and Dwight Gayle of Newcastle, was bettered only by Chris Wood at Leeds United and with 3 assists to his name as well, the young England prospect showed himself in a great light.
