Three Transfers That Celtic Are Expected To Complete This Summer

It’s expected to be a fairly busy summer at Celtic, with Brendan Rodgers desperately keen to keep hold of Stuart Armstrong and Moussa Dembele as well as emerging centre-back Jozo Simunovic. On-loan star Patrick Roberts is uncertain to return to Celtic Park from Manchester City, indicating a possibly large reshuffle.

The one he may be able to do very little about though is the departure of Scotland’s young player of the year Kieran Tierney, as Premier League teams have been sniffing around for months now. Sales aren’t the only thing on Celtic’s collective minds though as a strengthening of the squad is needed regardless of who they lose. Here we look at 3 transfers Celtic could complete in the coming months:

Fabio Borini (from Sunderland)

The former Liverpool striker is still under contract at recently relegated Sunderland and so a fee would be needed to secure his services. Sunderland’s finances are in a dire way right now and it’s certain that they will need to sell off some of their assets over the next few months.

Borini is perhaps not as good as Dembele but would be a better option in Europe than Leigh Griffiths and could just add the extra bit of quality needed in the Champions League.

Henry Onyekuru (from Eupen)

Given the potential loss of Patrick Roberts among others, Celtic will need to inject more pace and attacking power into their squad before next season. They shouldn’t have too many problems domestically, but in Europe, they have proven to be way below the required standard. This is where Nigerian Henry Onyekuru could be key.

Onyekuru has hit 22 goals and 9 assists in his 40 games in all competitions this season which is an outstanding record. In fact, he has produced a goal or an assist every 114 minutes for Eupen in Belgium’s Pro League and domestic cups and at just 19 he can only improve on this sort of return.

Kieran Tierney (to the English Premier League)

It’s impossible to know at this stage which club may stump up the cash to land the young left-back, with Premier League clubs definitely interested.

Should the chance to play in England’s top 6 and remain in European competition for a top club comes along, it would be too difficult for Tierney to turn down. Tierney’s quality is never in question and would do well to join a club like Everton or Southampton.
