3 Players Manchester United Must Recall From Loan This Summer

Share

After a slow start to his reign at Manchester United, Louis Van Gaal seems to have finally got his players playing the way that he wants. Even though their six-game winning run was ended by Chelsea, the performance will certainly give them plenty of confidence for next season. From being outsiders looking in, the Red Devils seem to have established not only a way of playing, but also their status in top four once again.

However, if United are to challenge for the title next season, they will need to recruit smartly. Not only in the transfer market, but also in terms of bringing players back from their loan spell. While there is no doubt that the Red Devils need reinforcement in defense, the quality of attackers, they have out on loan means that Van Gaal will do well to look at bringing some of them back. Here are three players that the Dutchman should recall for next season. Not only to save on some cash in the transfer market, but also to replenish a squad that can still use some fresh legs.

Nani

Despite Ashley Young’s recent resurgence, the need for a new winger cannot be undermined. Given Antonio Valencia’s conversion into an auxillary right back, there aren’t too many wingers left in the side. And while there have been rumours linking Memphis Depay to Old Trafford, Van Gaal will do well to recall a winger who has done well during his loan spell. While he can be inconsistent and at times frustrating, there is no denying the stardust he adds to the attack. The Portuguese winger has the pace and the trickery to outfox any defender and his unpredictability might prove crucial in breaking down packed defenses.

Still only 28, Nani has a few years left in him and with the Red Devils in desperate need of a winger, he might prove to be the perfect cost-cutting solution that might be the difference between United finishing in the top three and challenging for the title.

Javier Hernandez

At the start of the season, there was  a fair case to be made for United having the best strike force in England. Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie and Radamal Falcao looked like a combination of three world class strikers at the peak of their powers. Unfortunately, the latter two have been injured far too often and ineffective when they have been on the field. With Falcao unlikely to be signed permanently and Van Persie likely to be sold as well, the Red Devils need another striker. And the Mexican who is out on loan at Real Madrid might be just what they need.

Instead of coming on and scoring goals, the 26-year-old has spent much of the season warming the bench in Madrid. A return to Old Trafford might just be the tonic the Little Pea needs to get back to scoring ways.

Guillermo Varela

United’s injury crisis at the start of the season, forced them to convert wingers into wingbacks. Although Valencia has thrived at right back, he is put to better use further forward. But with Rafael’s injury record, that seems unlikely unless the Red Devils sign another right back. Nathaniel Clyne has been linked with a move to Manchester and while the Southampton full back, will not be a bad buy at all. If the 63-year-old doesn’t want to spend big on another full back, he should look at bringing back someone who is thriving in Madrid. Varela moved to Real Madrid’s B team, where he has enjoyed regular football this season and looks like a solid replacement for the future.

At just 23, the Uruguayan right back who was signed from Penarol has the potential to develop into a mainstay for the future. And given Van Gaal’s tendency to trust youth, don’t be surprised if he makes his way back to United and is fighting for a first-team berth.
