3 players Dean Smith can look to sign if he takes over at Aston Villa

Aston Villa’s season continues to struggle along as manager Steve Bruce has now been sacked after weeks of pressure. Despite taking Villa so close to promotion last season, Bruce has been shown the door this season.

As per the Birmingham LiveAston Villa are thinking about approaching Brentford to speak with their manager Dean Smith.

Dean Smith has done a really good job with Brentford and the news of him being on Villa’s radar might well turn some heads in the footballing fraternity. With Smith’s name doing the rounds, here are three names he must bring to Villa Park to save their season.

Neal Maupay (Brentford)

Neal Maupay is in red-hot form in front of the goal at the moment. He has scored 9 goals and supplied 3 assists in 9 Championship games so far for Brentford.

Maupay, 22, looks all set to become one of the most sought-after strikers in England if he continues his rich goalscoring exploits. If Smith leaves Brentford for Villa, he must sign this sharpshooter in January.

Robert Huth (Free agent)

Robert Huth is currently a free agent after being released by Leicester City this past summer. He helped them win the Premier League title in 2016. However, it is probably a surprise that Huth hasn’t been snapped up by another team yet.

The German is a Premier League winner and has a wealth of experience. Huth is in the twilight of his career, but he could still arguably do a very good job for Villa and solve their defensive woes. Due to Villa’s struggles in the defence this season, a move for Huth makes sense more than ever.

Lewis Macleod (Brentford)

Villa’s squad appears to be fairly well-rounded but if the recent poor results showed anything, it’s that the team is still lacking a creative midfielder to keep possession and create chances in the final third.

It’s imperative that Villa find a creative midfielder in January and should Smith become the manager, he would do a top job to bring in Lewis Macleod from Brentford.

A product of the Rangers academy, Macleod, 24, has shown great quality this season after overcoming his injury hell.  Now that he’s fit and firing on all cylinders again, Smith would be wise to bring Macleod to Villa Park.
