3 ideal PL destinations for Man United goalkeeper Dean Henderson

According to The Sun, Man United are set to trigger a bidding war for the services of young goalkeeper Dean Henderson next summer, with the report claiming that the Red Devils are looking to cash in on the 22-year-old. 

Henderson was touted as the club’s future No.1 between the sticks at the start of the ongoing season but a new contract for David de Gea means that the Englishman will now have to wait for a long time to establish himself at Old Trafford. 

The Sun understands that United are ready to part ways with their academy product for a fee of around £20 million and his imminent availability next summer is likely to have alerted the Premier League clubs who are on the lookout for a new shot-stopper. 

Henderson, who was one of the architects of Sheffield United’s promotion-winning campaign in the Championship the last term with a staggering 21 clean sheets in 41 league outings, is currently impressing in the Premier League on his second loan stint at Bramall Lane. 

The England U-21 international has already managed a couple of clean sheets in 7 games thus far and has earned rave reviews from fans and pundits alike for his talent and potential.

Along with Bournemouth’s Aaron Ramsdale, Henderson has been one of the young homegrown goalkeeping prospects to have caught the eye, albeit his recent howler against Liverpool might not have gone down well with some of the Blades fans. 

Despite that, however, he apparently has no future at Old Trafford, with an international stalwart like David de Gea standing in his way.

In fairness to Henderson, a permanent move away from Old Trafford would allow him to settle down somewhere else and work wonders for his career, given that he is unlikely to have a chance of usurping de Gea at the moment. 

With that in mind, here are 3 ideal Premier League destinations for Dean Henderson:-

1. West Ham

Lukasz Fabianski has been a massive hit at the London Stadium since his move from Swansea City last summer and the Hammers currently have things sorted out between the sticks after signing the hugely experienced Roberto Gimenez as the designated back-up following Adrian’s departure earlier in the summer. 

However, with Fabianski already 34 and Roberto just a year younger, West Ham should aim for a long-term solution between the sticks and Henderson certainly has the talent to take over the reins in the years to come. 

In Henderson, West Ham would have the ideal young shot-stopper to groom for the future No.1 role and a move to East London is likely to appeal to the player, given the club’s European ambitions under Manuel Pellegrini. 

2. Watford

The Hornets are currently struggling at the bottom of the table but they have consolidated their status as an exciting mid-table outfit in the Premier League in recent years and the tumultuous goalkeeping situation at Vicarage Road certainly calls for a young and talented shot-stopper like Dean Henderson. 

Ben Foster,36, was quite impressive last season but the veteran hasn’t quite looked all that sharp with his reflexes between the sticks this term, while back-up keeper Heurelho Gomes is very much a p[layer for the history books at the age of 38. 

3. Sheffield United

Well, the Blades, of course, would love to sign him up permanently if the opportunity arises and provided they are still in the Premier League at the end of the ongoing season.

Henderson has made the No.1 role his own at Bramall Lane since the start of the previous campaign in the Championship and this is a move that would be in the best interests of all parties involved, albeit Man United’s financial demands might be a stumbling block for Chris Wilder’s side.
