3 Ideal Duos To Play Chelsea’s Matic-Fabregas Role For Jose Mourinho At Manchester United

Share

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is on the verge of taking up the Manchester United job. The fans and management will be hoping that the Portuguese manager can get the Red Devils back on track and win them the Premier League, securing qualification for the Champions League as well. The task will be a tough one, as the Manchester based side have struggled for form this season, though they managed to win the FA Cup under recently sacked boss Louis van Gaal.

On the other hand, the Blues did not have a great season under Mourinho as well, who was sacked by the west London outfit after winning the double in the previous campaign.

There were many reasons for the success of the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan main-man at Stamford Bridge, though one prominent reason was the holding midfield pairing of Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas, which helped Chelsea dominate a lot of games.

Due to this, it seems likely now that Mourinho might look to replicate a similar system at Old Trafford and here are three possible combinations that he might use in order to get the same set of results:

3. Morgan Schneiderlin-Ander Herrera:

Mourinho could possibly ask the pairing of Schneiderlin and Herrera to fulfill that role. Though there is no doubt that Schneiderlin prefers to play in a more attacking role, the incoming boss might ask the former Southampton man to drop back into a defensive midfield role rather, and the Spaniard besides him looking to push forward at times with his pace and trickery. Louis van Gaal did have the option of using this pair on a regular basis, but did not show the confidence in his players, something which might be different under Mourinho.

2. Daley Blind-Morgan Schneiderlin:

One more option that Mourinho could use on a consistent basis to achieve similar results to the ones that he got at Chelsea, could be the pairing of Blind and Schneiderlin, at the center of the United midfield. The Dutchman could be back in a defensive midfield role rather than playing as a center-back, with the Frenchman playing in a holding midfield position and occasionally joining the attack at times. If this happens and the new United boss goes ahead with this plan, he might consider signing yet another center-back to add to his squad, though he has Phil Jones amongst his ranks as well.

1. Nemanja Matic-Morgan Schneiderlin:

The last option would be for Jose Mourinho to bring one his favourite players to United. Matic could be all set to leave the Blues and move on with his career, away from the club as recent reports have suggested with his former boss eyeing a deal. If the move does go through, the former Porto boss could play the combination of Matic and Schneiderlin in midfield, which could be a hit as well at the Manchester based side. Both the stars are really talented players and can dominate any game if they are able to co-ordinate with each other.
