Get your cheque books ready, the great Dortmund sale is about to hit in the summer of 2015! Borussia Dortmund fans were rocked with the news of their manager Jurgen Klopp deciding to step down at the end of this season. He will be replaced by the Mainz Manager, Thomas Tuchel, but Klopp stated that he would not be taking a break from the game and instead would be listening to offers from clubs.
While most clubs would love to get Klopp on their side, Dortmund fans will be fearing that some of their stars would also be leaving the club following their manager. Dortmund have been in the shadow of Bayern Munich for the past few years and the players might think that this is the best time to move to a new club and try out a fresh challenge. We look at 3 players who could be targeted by Premier League clubs next season.
Marco Reus
Well, everyone would target Marco Reus, he might have signed a new deal to keep him at Dortmund but that means nothing in the world of football. Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United have all kept a tap on the German ace but Manchester City could end up signing him since they are in the process of rebuilding and with Klopp being the favourite to end up as the manager of Manchester City, who would bet against Marco Reus joining his boss?
Mats Hummels
Matt HummelsDortmund did have one of the best centre back pairings in football but this season it has come to naught, although they are 10th in the league, they were in the bottom three for quite a while and Hummels was often at the centre of the issue. Hummels nevertheless is a great central defender and at only 25 years-old, he still has time to learn more and hit the high notes for a defender. Hummels is also a great leader and would add a lot of control and steel in the team.
Ilkay Gundogan
While people might think of moving for Aubameyang or Mkhitaryan, the real star of the midfield is Ilkay Gundogan. Him along with Sven Bender is a great midfield pairing and the German international would be a great addition for any club. The 24-year-old Gundogan could have represented Turkey but chose to play for Germany. Gundogan is a midfield general and while he might not be the best tackler, he still can pass the ball around and make a difference in the attack.
There are many other players who could be linked with a move away from the club, Aubameyang, Immobile and Subotic would all make great additions to various English clubs, but those three listed above would be every Premier League team’s primary targets.
