Who Is This 24-Year-Old Swiss International That Arsenal And Chelsea Are Monitoring? Everything You Need To Know

Share

The Premier League has some of the richest clubs in world football so it does not come as a surprise that a number of clubs in the league are busy in the transfer window, plotting moves for their top transfer targets. Recent reports suggest that London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in the signature of Wolfsburg left-back Ricardo Rodriguez this month. The defender has been scouted by a number of clubs even in the summer transfer window but the German outfit managed to keep hold of him for a few months. But with the window now open, the Premier League duo are ready to pounce on him. But who is Ricardo Rodriguez? Here is a peek into his scout report:

Born in Zurich to a Spanish father and Chilean mother, Rodriguez started his professional career at FC Zurich in 2009. At just 16, he was promoted to the senior squad at Zurich and just a year later, he made his professional debut for the side in the domestic league. His services for Zurich saw Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg snap him up, still as a youngster back in 2012. Ever since, he has cemented a place in the starting lineup of the German team and is now one of the most exciting players in his position.

A full back with genuine attacking intent, the 24-year old is a typical modern day full-back who loves to add to the numbers in the final third. He often finds himself in influential positions in the final third and his return of 10 goals in a Bundesliga season, playing as a full-back, shows his calibre in front of goal.

A left-footed talent, Rodriguez is comfortable beating his man with his dribbling abilities and also loves to drive in crosses that more often than not find their target. At the back, he is solid in the air and is not afraid of the physical battle that is sure to test him in the Premier League. He is disciplined, loves to stay ahead of the game, and is a player most managers would want in their side. His dead ball delivery is also right up there with the best in the league and he will only get better the more he plays at the highest level.

In his time with the Switzerland national team, Rodriguez won the FIFA U17 WC back in 2009 and already has some experience of winning silverware at the highest level. He has, ever since, made some influential appearance for the national side and is a regular first teamer for his side. His experience at such a tender age is sure to attract interests from a lot of places.

Arsene Wenger is always looking for some young players who can replace Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs in the current squad while Antonio Conte, does not have a backup for Marcos Alonso, who may even be pushed to the bench if Rodriguez moves to the Stamford Bridge. At both clubs, the 24-year old will have regular game time under his belt and if played to his strengths, he can turn out to be a top class player in England.
