£200m Warchest For Manchester United? Moyes Should Look To Sign At Least 2 Of This 3 Defenders

Share

As Manchester United look to scout replacements for Nemanja Vidic and possibly Rio Ferdinand, United’s back four looks to undergo a major reshuffle. According to reports from Telegraph, Manchester United are preparing £200 million to rebuild the team with David Moyes set to overhaul his current crop of players. So we here at Soccersouls provide you four defenders for The Red Devils to look out for as a part of the rebuilding works in the coming summer Transfer Window

Luke Shaw:

The 18 year old left back has shown immense maturity beyond his years with a calm head and demonstrates superb game reading ability on his young shoulders.

And the latest from the transfer mills says that, Manchester United have hijacked Luke Shaw’s transfer to Chelsea from Southampton according to a report from Mirror. If it is indeed true, then United and Moyes have found themselves a perfect replacement for the ageing Patrice Evra.

Although, the £27 million price tag looks a bit hefty, his defensive stats backs him up. From the 29 appearances Shaw has made for Soton this season, he is yet to make a defensive error leading to a goal. So far, he has made 131 clearances, 32 interceptions and 4 blocks – a testament to Southampton’s rigid display at the back.

Eliaquim Mangala:

I have written about him before and I maintain the same now, Mangala is currently the best defender available in the market. The Frenchman, currently plying his trade with Portuguese giants Porto is brilliant at the back, possessing a no nonsense attitude and always far sighted at reading the game. At 6’2, he has the height and physique to face the Premier League attackers and an imposing threat at set pieces as well. However his biggest quality comes with his dedication, the willingness to throw himself into a tackle to win back possession for his side.

Ezequiel Garay:

Jonny Evans will be the only experienced defender left at United after the departures of Vidic and Ferdinand at the end of this season and Garay, 27, will prove to be a vital cog for the Red Devils in the coming seasons. Evans who has been a victim of several injuries in recent seasons, cannot be relied upon when United would be aiming to rebuild under David Moyes.

Garay along with Luisao have done an incredible job at Benfica. The Argentine International having played more than 250 games for Benfica has also won 18 caps for his national side and will be a crucial part of their World Cup campaign at Brazil, which is just one among the many reasons why Garay would be a perfect signing for United. Garay along with another defender/Evans and Jones can be as good as the glorious partnership of Vidic and Ferdinand.

He has a vibrant work rate, with immaculate positioning skills and a no nonsense approach. Garay is equally adept at covering his fellow defenders and manning the last line of defence, something which David Moyes’ team has been lacking in their faltering season.

Garay according to the report from Mirror has a €20million release clause but United hope for a discount with his contract running out.
