Why Graham Dorrans Would Be A Good Fit For Rangers

Rangers’ quest to find the players capable of closing the gap on Celtic continues and now Norwich City midfielder Graham Dorrans is very much in their cross hairs.

The former West Bromwich Albion man is under contract until 2019 and may well command rather a large fee.  Money is something Rangers will have to get over but surely, they will attempt to find a way to get the deal done.

In terms of his overall quality, any sensible person will disagree that he would improve Rangers and therefore would be a good signing. Here we look at two key reasons why he can take the Ibrox club forward next season:

His Passion For The Club

Dorrans grew up as a Rangers fan, idolising Paul Gascoigne from the Ibrox stands. As has been the case in the past with many a Rangers player, an upbringing as a Bear and having the clubs actual interests truly at heart can make such a huge difference.

With this in mind, Rangers wouldn’t be getting a player putting in 70-80% effort. They would have a player who would always be giving as close to 100% as is physically possible at all times. One cannot stress enough how important that is.

Graham Dorrans is 29 now and currently has his highest ever transfer market value. He is at his peak and is, in English terms, a Premier League player. He would be a marvellous signing if Rangers can get the deal done and his stats truly back this up.

Playing in the EFL Championship this season for Norwich City following their relegation, Dorrans has managed 21 league appearances. With Dorrans in the team, Norwich have won 11 and have drawn 1 of those games, accumulating 34 points (1.62 per game). In the 23 games Dorrans has missed due to a suspension as well as his muscle injury, the Canaries have gained 8 wins and 8 draws, meaning a total of 32 points or 1.39 per game.

This can always be put down to coincidence, of course, but even looking back at the same stats in Norwich’s Premier League season last year a similar pattern emerges. The difference is not so big; 1.00 points per game versus 0.94 per game but still it stands out. There is no doubt Dorrans is influential and if he plies his trade in the Scottish Premier League, he may well be described as the best player in the league.
