2 Quality signings Benitez could try to complete for Newcastle with his £40m transfer kitty including Swansea star

Share

According to reports, Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez is only set to get an initial transfer kitty of around £40m to spend in the summer transfer window.

The Magpies finished a respectable tenth in the Premier League this past season straight after gaining promotion to the top-flight. However, Benitez must strengthen his squad this summer if he wants to aim higher next season.

A club of Newcastle’s stature cannot go around buying average players due to their financial limitations. Any player the Tyneside-based club recruit will need to fit into their culture and should be able to improve the team.

With that in mind, Benitez should look to buy these two players to improve his squad further ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

Iago Falque (Torino)

Newcastle managed to score just 39 goals this past season which clearly tells Benitez must get an attacking player to bolster his current options.

With this in mind, the Toons should consider a move for Torino winger Falque, who was in excellent form for the Italian outfit last season, scoring 14 goals and supplying a further 10 assists in 40 appearances in all competitions.

Predominantly a winger, the 28-year-old can play anywhere along the front-line, and with his pace and trickery, he would certainly help bring some dynamism to Newcastle’s attacking play.

Falque is quick, agile, industrious and a constant goal-threat. He would be an excellent addition to the Newcastle squad and would provide solid competition in the wide attacking department at St James’ Park.

Leroy Fer (Swansea City)

Fer suffered relegation with Swansea City last season but the Magpies certainly can throw him a Premier League lifeline.

Fer, 28, has just 12 months remaining on his current contract at Swansea. Benitez must take a note of it and capture his signing in what could be at a cut-price deal after the Welsh club’s relegation to the Championship.

Speaking about Fer, he has established himself as a highly competent Premier League midfielder with QPR, Norwich City and Swansea. He is renowned for making perfectly timed runs into the opposition’s penalty area and he could be a useful addition to the Magpies next season.

The Dutchman would add depth to Newcastle’s midfield and compete with the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Mohamed Diame and Isaac Hayden.

Strong, versatile and energetic, with a powerful shot in the locker, Fer would be a brilliant addition for Benitez’s Newcastle.
