According to a report from Sky Sports, Rangers are closing in on the signature of Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield. The 29-year-old’s contract at Turf Moor is set to expire at the end of the season and he has not signed a deal to remain at Burnley beyond the summer.
The Canada international has been on the fringes at Burnley this season. He has netted just 2 goals in 19 league appearances this term and after failing to nail down a regular place in the first-team, he is prepared to move on and head back to Scotland.
With Rangers set to snap up Arfield on a free transfer at the end of the season, here are two players Burnley can target to replace the 29-year-old.
A versatile midfielder with good reading of the game and defensive attributes, James McArthur has been a permanent fixture for Crystal Palace since joining from Wigan in 2014.
McArthur has gained solid experience playing in the Premier League and has a lot of potential. This season, he has made 32 appearances for the Eagles, scoring 5 goals to fire his club 6 points clear of the relegation zone with three games remaining.
Burnley must target McArthur in the summer transfer window as the midfielder’s deal at Selhurst Park runs out at the end of this campaign.
Gosling has been a consistent performer for Bournemouth over the years. He is a versatile player, having operated as a box-to-box midfielder on several occasions, and would suit Burnley’s style of play.
A tough-tackling and aggressive midfielder, the 28-year-old loves to make his presence felt and is a player who gives 100 percent every game.
The former Everton man would also add some creativity to Burnley’s midfield to match the industry of Jack Cork and Ashley Westwood. Burnley’s side looks one dimensional at times and with the club striving hard to book a place in Europe, they will need more depth, quality and experience for next season.
Gosling would add plenty of experience to the current squad and Dyche must target the Bournemouth man to replace Arfield.
