Two More Signings That Rangers Should Complete To Challenge Celtic Next Season

Rangers’ shock Europa League qualifying exit to Luxembourg minnows FC Progres Niederkorn has set them back after what looked a very positive start to the summer in the transfer market.

New boys Fabio Cardoso, Daniel Candeias, Alfredo Morelos, Dalcio and Eduardo Herrera all played in the two-legged tie and failed to make enough of an impact to send Rangers through to the next round. Although they will take time to settle in, it’s clear that more quality must be brought in if Rangers are to close the gap first on Aberdeen and eventually on Celtic in the Premiership.

In fairness, Pedro Caixinha’s wish list has not been exhausted yet and here are three more who could yet come in and make an impact at the club before the summer is over.

Jamie Walker (Hearts)

Rangers’ exile from the top two appears to be coming to an end and as such, players are beginning to jump ship once again. Jonny Hayes (to Celtic) and Ryan Jack (to Rangers) have left Aberdeen to get into the Old Firm and Jamie Walker of Hearts may see a similar move as a good career decision.

The left-winger represented Scotland at every level from under-15 to under-21 and still has tons of potential. His 34 league games last season for a stuttering Hearts side resulted in him grabbing 12 goals and claiming 3 assists too, something which dwarves Barrie McKay’s figures.

Walker would definitely be a step up and at 24 years of age, even more can be expected of him. He’s under contract for just one more year at Tynecastle and may well be available for a reduced fee. Barrie McKay is on the way out now and needs to be replaced ASAP.

Louis Moult (Motherwell)

Moult is 25-years-old now and is beginning to reach his peak as a striker. His profile is that of an improving player, having shown precious little output in the opening years of his career until finding his feet at Nuneaton town in the National League in England back in 2013/14. He hit 18 goals that season which earned him a move to Wrexham where another 23 goals followed within a year.

His progress was rapid and from there he moved to Motherwell, scoring 18 times in his debut season before going on to match that this term at the same club. The fact that he keeps stepping up gradually but still finds the net, shows his ascension up the ranks and so a striking job at Rangers looks appropriate for him now.
