Three Transfers That Leeds United Should Look To Complete In January

Leeds United already need to get their Championship season back on track, having wobbled of late. They still look fairly well placed for a crack at promotion under Thomas Christiansen, though clearly the manager can see gaps in his squad and will look to strengthen in January.

Here we look at two incomings and one potential outgoing which could change the fortunes of the club beyond this winter with places in the top two still up for grabs at this point:

Mimoun Mahi (Left Wing, Groningen – In)

Leeds, like many sides in this division, can be described as having more quantity than quality in forward supporting positions behind their main striker and so Mahi could be a good addition to the side.

The Moroccan international has hit 5 goals in 9 games in the Netherlands this season and his form is enough to put him well and truly on Christiansen’s radar. Options such as Hadi Sacko, Stuart Dallas and Ezgjan Alioski remain at Christiansen’s disposal, but none is particularly looking like leading Leeds to the top two.

Joe Bryan (Left-Back, Bristol City – In)

The penny has dropped now with this lad and frankly, he looks like a Premier League left-back, making this one a no-brainer. Should Bryan be available for the right price, this is a move the club should look to complete as quickly as they can.

Bryan is a better player than Charlie Taylor and so this would mean only half a season of strife in this position, having not replaced their former student after his defection to Burnley. Bryan has been in terrific form this season at Ashton Gate and would fit into this side seamlessly.

Eoghan Stokes (Striker – Out)

One of the last things Garry Monk did before leaving Leeds United was to offer striker Eoghan Stokes a one-year contract extension at Elland Road.

Leeds have a good record of bringing talent through from their under-18 side, but at 21 you would be forgiven for thinking that Stokes should have forced his way into the team by now. Despite a generally disappointing season for the under-23’s last time, Stokes had been scoring regularly in that side and had his chance to show the new boss what he can do.

The likes of Lewis Cook and Ronaldo Vieira are big success stories from the Leeds academy and fans are fully expecting Mallik Wilks and Eoghan Stokes to be next on the conveyor belt, who in the cutthroat world of professional football, needed to make their point ASAP, and I’m not sure Stokes has.
