2 Alternatives To Gareth Bale Manchester United Can Go For This Summer

Share

It is no secret that Manchester United have been linked with every known footballer on the planet this summer. They seem to be propping up in every transfer race. Following a big spending summer the previous year, many expect them to spend just as much this time around. Rumours abound Old Trafford of a possible move for a world class midfielder and Gareth Bale is numero uno on the wish list. But Real Madrid are not keen on selling the welsh midfielder after they acquired him for a world record fee 2 seasons ago. The change in management and Rafa Benitez’s desire to make Bale, not Ronaldo, the linchpin in the upcoming season has made Madrid more protective of their prized possession.

This is hardly a setback for Manchester United who will like to match Angel Di Maria’s quality in another marquee midfield signing this summer. There are many players who will fit into the Manchester United system while adapting to the Van Gaal philosophy.

The contingency plan

  1. Marco Reus
Marco Reus

The German has signed a new contract at Borussia Dortmund this season. Reus has been on Manchester United’s radar in the summers prior to this but their efforts have never seen fruition. Borussia Dortmund have failed to qualify for the Champions League following a shockingly dismal season.

Reus has stacked up 37 goals and 27 assists in 79 appearances in the Bundesliga. Jurgen Klopp’s departure will be another key factor which will make the German want to leave Dortmund. The transition at United promises world class talent and tutelage under an experienced manager – the perfect next move for the German midfielder.

  1. Lucas Moura

The Brazilian defender has run into sticky contract negotiations at PSG as the club refuses to meet his wage demands. Moura has scored 7 goals and 4 assists in the Ligue 1 this season. The Paris Saint Germain management may look to make money off him before losing him out on a free transfer.

Moura has a lot to offer equivalent to Bale. He has the pace and dribbling skills to cause Premier League defences a lot of problems and United could definitely do with some pace in attack. They have become a ball-hogging team moving up the pitch at glacial speed.
