The recently crowned player of the season in Ligue 1 has a tough decision to make about where his future lies. It is a certainty that Alexandre Lacazette will be leaving Lyon sooner rather than later, he scored 27 goals in just 33 games in the league and was the top scorer as he powered Lyon back into the Champions League and the club came second in the league behind PSG. Liverpool are linked with a Summer move for the super striker from Lyon.
Liverpool have been one of the clubs who are in desperate need of strikers into their team, especially when it comes to the injury prone star striker they have at the moment Daniel Sturridge. The likes of Fabio Borini, Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli don’t really put fear into many defenders and their collective performance and goals this season was a sad indictment of not only the Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers but of this whole transfer committee that overlooks the big money moves.
Liverpool need someone who not only has the ability to score goals, but they need a player who can be there at the right place and at the right time. Positioning is key for Liverpool with the likes of Coutinho and Sterling running in at defences, the problem with Liverpool’s strikers has been the fact that they don’t really provide a lot of movement.
Apart from Fabio Borini, who gives it his all every time he steps on to the pitch, you cannot expect Rickie Lambert to go all guns blazing and run around like a maniac and Mario Balotelli is the last person you would expect to run around on the pitch. While Lacazette is no Dirk Kuyt, he is a player who is willing to move about and cause headaches to defenders, plus he is a great finisher as well, that is obviously a plus for any team.
The other factor that would make Lacazette the perfect signing for Liverpool would be that next season they should have a fit Daniel Sturridge to help Lacazette in front of goal. Both players have great pace and movement which can stretch defences and having two up top can certainly help Liverpool get the goals they have missed this season.
Liverpool would also be getting the services of Divock Origi from Lille next season and the Belgian might not have had one of the best seasons in the French league but he still is touted as one of the brightest talents in the world and hopefully for Liverpool he can help them to achieve greater things next season.
Liverpool need to sign a player who can score goals from almost anywhere and while Lacazette fits the bill is almost every respect, Liverpool not having Champions League football for next season can seriously damage any chance they have of signing the talented forward.
