17 Games, 9 Goals – 3 Reasons Why Arsenal Should Sign This Super Striker

Share

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been on the lookout for a new striker due to the injuries to strikers Theo Walcott and Nicklas Bendtner, according to reports, he seems to have identified Lyon striker as a Alexandre Lacazette as a potential replacement. Here’s a look at three reason why Arsenal should sign him.

1. Versatility in attack

Lacazette plays as the central striker at Lyon, but also has the ability to play on the wings as a wide-forward. This will be crucial for Arsenal’s title challenge considering Theo Walcott is out for the season and Niklas Bendtner is also injured, leaving Olivier Giroud as the only recognized striker in the squad.

Lacazette fits the typical profile of an Arsene Wenger signing- he is young, French, quick and technically gifted (remember Thierry Henry?) He is versatile enough to provide cover for Walcott in wide areas as well as be a back-up for Giroud, and would be well-suited to Arsenal’s fluid attacking style.

2. Ability to find the net

Likened to previous Lyon striker Sonny Anderson by many coaches, Lacazette is currently enjoying his finest season at the club and has scored 9 goals and created 25 chances in 17 Ligue 1 appearances for Lyon to go with three goals in the cups. His finishing has improved drastically compared to last season when  he managed 3 goals and created 34 chances.

Giroud needs some rest too

Giroud’s goals have been threatening to dry up and Arsene Wenger will need someone who can add to Arsenal’s goal tally given that third highest scorer Walcott will not take any further part this season. The 22-year old’s ratio superior to a goal every other game indicates that he is a striker of enormous potential, and given the right support, he can become a top goal scorer.

3. Chance to get a good deal

Wenger has been known to drive home a bargain, and took advantage to Malaga’s financial troubles to sign duo Santi Cazorla and Nacho Monreal relatively cheaply. Wenger has always preferred to look at the French market for deal, and a look at the economic problems at Lyon would only increase the chance of a move for the French striker.

Lyon’s economic potential is being severely hampered by attempts to raise funds for a new stadium, and, according to reports they are saddled with more than €50 million worth of debt. To compound matters, Lyon are currently struggling and are a whopping 15 points off the Champions League places, meaning that a nice offer will be hard for them to turn down.
