Scout Report: Josip Drmic

Age: 21

Nationality: Switzerland

Height: 1.81 m/ 5’11”

Preferred Foot: Right

Position: Striker- Center Forward

There have been reports that the FC Nurnberg striker is being seriously courted by Arsenal, who are looking to add a striker into their roster. The young Switzerland International striker has had 31 appearances and has an impressive tally of 16 goals and 3 assists in the Bundesliga.

Josip Drmic is a very versatile and direct attacking center forward. He has the pace, the technical ability to perform skilled dribbling and the natural ability to finish off moves. He has shown his potential in a struggling Bundesliga outfit and moreover, Josip Drmic has one key attribute that can help his cause- he is an injury free player!

Drmic can be a typical Arsene Wenger signing, a relatively unknown youngster who can develop into one of the best players in the world under the guidance of a manager who is best known for developing youngsters. The lad has recently expressed his desire to join Arsenal as he has said that he dreams of playing for them , but he will make up his mind only when the season ends.

But Drmic told Bild and as reported by Dailymail, Drmic said: ‘At the moment, I’m single. There is no one house-hunting in London.’

‘What will happen in the future, I don’t know. Any boy dreams about playing for Arsenal.’

Drmic can be available for £8m pounds as per Lothar Matthaus; a sum which most premier league teams can afford and Arsenal are front runners to land the FC Nurnberg player.

However, it all comes down to this, is Drmic a second string option next season or is he going to lead the team? There has been recent rumours that Atletico Madrid are targeting Olivier Giroud as a replacement to Chelsea bound Diego Costa, so it again leaves us with a question as to who is going to lead the Gunners attack next season.

While the most Pessimistic Arsenal fans would love to see the likes of Cavani, Balotelli instead of Giroud and Drmic, the optimists will feel the signing of Drmic would be un upgrade to the current squad. Whatever it may come down to, but the fact is that Drmic is a decent/good striker.

If you are to go by stats, Drmic has so far scored 16 goals in 31 league appearances with a shot accuracy of 58% which is definitely better than Giroud’s 15 goals from 34 appearances with a meager 42% shot accuracy. Apart from pace and the knack to dribble past defenders, Drmic can score goals with both his legs, something which Giroud fails to do time and again. Out of the 16 goals that the Nurnberg striker has scored this season, 6 of them has been scored with his left foot and 9 using his right. Now that’s something that can come in handy when you are an Arsenal striker.

Drmic’s goalscoring exploits if tacked further than the current season, it does look decent enough. He has scored 13 in 31 league appearances at Zurich before moving to Nurnberg. So he is not going to be your one season wonder. Considering his age, Drmic has all the time in the world to grow into a prolific goal scorer under the watchful eye of Arsene Wenger.

So when you ask the question whether he is better than Giroud? You never know!
