16 Goals In 29 Games, Would This £53m Rated Mega Star Fit In At Manchester United?

Share

With Javier Hernandez and possibly Robin Van Persie looking to leave Manchester United in the summer for another club the search for a striker is a big priority at the moment. Also with reports emerging out of Paris that Edinson Cavani has had a falling out with PSG manager Laurent Blanc, rumours are already afloat that the striker wants a move to the English club Manchester United.

In fact it is being reported that the striker feels that he would be ‘a perfect fit’ in the Premier League and would be very open to a move to Manchester United. Here at Soccersouls we decided to analyse whether a move for Edinson Cavani to Manchester United really suit Manchester United or not.

Edinson Cavani has the physicality to be successful at Manchester United:

There is usually a fear with strikers, no matter how well they have performed in the La Liga, Serie A or the Ligue 1, that a move to the Premier League might not be as successful due to the incredibly physical nature of the Premier League. The transfer of Roberto Soldado to Tottenham Hotspur this season is the best example of how a striker who performed so well in the La Liga just could not adopt to the pace and the physical nature of the Premier League.

However the Uruguayan has the perfect physicality to fit in the Premier League instantly and does not really need much beefing up which many of the foreign players need when they transfer to a club in the Premier League. Keeping this in mind it would indeed be foolish of Manchester United not to snap up such a striker should he be available in the market.

There is no doubting Edinson Cavani’s talent:

Cavani has so far scored 16 league goals in his 29 appearances with a shot accuracy of about 46%. While Cavani has somehow been shadowed by the maverick Zlatan Ibrahimovic there is no doubting the supreme talent the Uruguayan possesses. He contributes well to the link up plays to create chances.

Prior to his transfer to PSG he was one of the most wanted striker in world football and was wanted by almost all the top clubs in the world. Despite not performing at the very top level this season, there can be no questioning his talent and landing a player of his caliber will be nothing short of a coup for Manchester United who does not have the luxury of playing in the Champions League next season. Keeping this in mind Manchester United will definitely give it a go to capture the services of this striker from PSG.

Edinson Cavani’s temperament makes it a no brainer:

While Edinson Cavani possesses the physical prowess and the talent to be successful anywhere he goes, the most important thing to remember is his temperament to the game. While many players posses the talent and in some cases world class talent the lack of temperament means that they hardly get to be really successful (read Mario Balotelli here). Edinson Cavani is a rare talent who has it all and is truly the complete package. The temperament of Edinson Cavani proves that he has the mental faculty needed to make it successful in the Premier League with a big club like Manchester United.

To add to that, his transfer doesn’t come at a small price. As per transfermarkt.co.uk, Cavani is valued at £53 million and PSG would certainly want more than that. So if Manchester United do manage to land this mega star, it would definitely be a statement of intent. With all the talks of Louis van Gaal taking over at Old Trafford next season and with a reported £200m warchest to re-build the team, things look better for the Red Devils.
