Everton have made a good start to life under Marco Silva, lying eighth in the table just two points behind sixth-placed Manchester United. The important aspect from the Toffees’ perspective is the progress they have made in terms of the football played on the pitch. This team now looks a far better prospect to remain as a top-eight side, and eventually break that top-six barrier sooner than later.
The Merseysiders have already played Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool away from home and have given a good account of themselves. However, they were slightly unlucky in all of those games that the chances created couldn’t be finished.
It has been a cliche that Everton have failed to replace Romelu Lukaku ever since the Belgian left in 2017. The likes of Oumar Niasse, Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin haven’t been able to take their chances, while Richarlison is better off playing in the wide areas.
Hence, it is imperative from the club’s point of view that they sign a new striker who can be lethal in front of the goal and lift this team to another level. Here’s why the Toffees should sign Andre Silva from Sevilla in January or next summer:
Having only scored 24 goals in 17 league games so far, which is the least among the current top-eight teams, except Wolves, it is clear that Everton need someone lethal as a striker. Andre Silva could solve that issue.
The 23-year-old is now an experienced Portuguese international, having already played for clubs like Porto, Milan and now Sevilla (on loan).
The striker has netted 15 goals in his 31 international appearances, which is impressive, to say the least. He has scored 8 goals in 15 La Liga appearances so far this season, epitomising his propensity to finish off chances when presented.
Talking about the attributes, Silva possess a good pace to make runs in behind a defence. He is physically strong (184cm tall), enabling him to win headers at an average of 2.8 per game. Consequently, he is a genuine threat from set-pieces.
As mentioned above, the Portuguese is ruthless when it comes to gobbling up a chance to score a goal.
Everton could really do with him in their squad. Imagine this current Everton team having Silva at the start of this season – they could have taken points against the big teams. Such is the fine margins at top-level football and the Toffees have to minimise their weakness.
