11 Goals, 10 Assists – Tottenham’s Target From Last Summer Ticks All The Boxes To Be Signed This Summer

Why Quincy Promes Would Be A Smart Signing For Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur seem to have fallen short once again in the title race after they lost 1-0 to West Ham United on Friday night. While it has been a largely satisfactory season for the North London outfit, the only let downs of the campaign will be the poor run in Europe and the poor transfer investments in the summer.

Tottenham had brought in as many as four players in the summer on permanent deals, but apart from the brilliant Victor Wanyama, the rest of them – Moussa Sissoko, Vincent Janssen and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou have struggled to get going at the White Hart Lane. Sissoko and N’Koudou’s failings, in particular, have left Tottenham searching more reinforcements in the wide areas for the next season.

One player, who was on Spurs’ radar last season and should be looked at again in the upcoming summer is Spartak Moscow’s Quincy Promes. The 25-year old was eyed by the North Londoners last summer, with Mauricio Pochettino personally keeping tabs on the Dutchman according to reports from the Daily Mail.

Promes has been in great form for the Russian club this season and this past weekend, he led Spartak Moscow to their first Russian League title since 2001 when he scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Tom Tomsk. The strike was the 11th of the season for Promes and he has also chalked up 10 assists so far from 23 league games.

These are the sorts of returns and the productivity in the attacking third that Tottenham were hoping to reap from the likes of Sissoko and N’Koudou when they were brought in. The Dutch attacker, who is adept at playing on either flank, possesses a great turn of pace and has the dribbling skills to trouble the opponents. As seen from his numbers, Promes possesses a keen eye for goal and can set his teammates up as well, with crosses and through balls alike.

At 25, Promes has much more exposure and experience at the top level when compared to N’Koudou and while there is no guarantee that he will hit the ground running in England, the fact that he has had a title-winning experience to go along with the know-how of European football could prove to be a great advantage for Tottenham.

Having been with Spartak Moscow since 2014, the time might also be right for the 25-year old to consider a move elsewhere, having led the club to the Russian league title. Promes ticks most of the boxes for Tottenham. He would offer what they are lacking in attack and they should be willing to take another look at the Dutch winger in the summer.
