Worth taking a gamble – Derby should consider raiding Serie A outfit to sign this 25-year-old star

Derby County should take a risk and sign Ravel Morrison

According to a report by the Mirror, Scottish club Rangers were linked with signing forgotten Manchester United midfielder Ravel Morrison.

The 25-year-old, who currently plies his trade with Serie A outfit Lazio, is an attack-oriented midfielder and seems to be in good shape as well. However, the report sheds light on Steven Gerrard’s recent interview (h/t the Mirror) where he rubbished claims of making a move for Morrison.

Several clubs in England could benefit from signing him and one of those clubs has to be Derby County. Currently placed 6th in the Championship, the Rams have made a decent start under Frank Lampard’s tutelage.

With the season hitting the midway mark, they are still in the promotion picture and have a decent chance as anybody else. But with the January window up and running, Lampard should strengthen his team to boost their chances of securing promotion to the Premier League.

And Morrison certainly seems like a good choice. One cannot deny his endless number of legal cases and whatnot but if all that is set aside, his talent is palpable.

Having played in numerous English clubs like Queens Park Rangers, West Ham United, Birmingham City, Cardiff City, etc – both on loan and permanently – Morrison does boast of a wealth of knowledge and experience about life and football in the country.

Given the style of play Lampard has employed at Pride Park, a player like Morrison could flourish. Although the Rams have the likes of Harry Wilson, Tom Lawrence and Mason Mount, the Englishman could still make a mark for himself while also boosting their options.

Besides his attacking calibre, Morrison is also unafraid to make a dirty tackle or two. Thus, his presence could truly make a difference for Derby County.

Having said all that, there is admittedly a risk to signing somebody with a troubled record like Morrison. But let’s not forget that he played some of his best football in England, notably for QPR.

If Derby do make a move for him this winter, Lampard might just be the best manager to push Ravel Morrison to greater heights.
