Manchester City player ratings vs Huddersfield – Who all fired for the Champions

Sergio Aguero netted the 13th hat-trick of his Manchester City career as the Premier League champions thumped Huddersfield Town 6-1 at the Etihad Stadium. The Argentine got City’s first, third and fifth goal in their romp of their lower confident opponents.

Gabriel Jesus and David Silva also got on the scoresheet, along with Terence Kongolo scoring an own goal to heap misery on the Terriers. The visitors got a goal through Jon Stankovic which barely mattered in the context of the game.

It was a performance worthy of the league title and Pep Guardiola never made it look like they were missing Kevin de Bruyne.

Manchester City player ratings

Ederson (8/10)

The Brazilian wasn’t called upon to make saves, so he pinged an 80-yard accurate pass for Aguero’s first goal.

Vincent Kompany (7/10)

Was comfortable throughout the game, except the fact that he could have done better to stop the Huddersfield goal.

John Stones

John Stones (7.5/10)

Stones was at ease for most of the game and used the ball like a proper midfielder at times.

Aymeric Laporte (7.5/10)

Laporte’s passing and cross-field diagonals have become a genuine weapon to start attacks. His defence is getting better too.

Fernandinho (8/10)

Performed his role to impeccable perfection again, occupying that central position and never allowing the opposition to break.

Ilkay Gundogan (7.5/10)

The German was quiet in the midfield but his subtle touches and intuitive passes were effective all game.

David Silva

David Silva (9/10)

The Spaniard’s vision is right up there with the best and he capped off his performance with a lovely curling free-kick to open his account for the season.

Benjamin Mendy (8.5/10)

Played a pivotal role in three goals today, the Frenchman’s darting runs from the left-hand side has become a feature already.

Gabriel Jesus (8/10)

Started off quietly but grew into the game and scored a goal which was well deserved. Linked up with Aguero to become a double-headache to the defenders.

Sergio Aguero

Sergio Aguero (10/10)

All three goals of his were of high quality and to add to that, the Argentine hit the cross-bar once and forced a couple of great saves from the keeper. Fantastic!

Subs

Riyad Mahrez (Subbed on after 65 mins) (7/10)

Came on and was an instant trouble for the opposition.

Leroy Sane (Subbed on after 76 mins) (6.5/10)

Was involved in City’s sixth goal, which was eventually an own goal by Kongolo.
