Predicted Sheffield United line-up to face Middlesbrough in the EFL Championship

After a disappointing start to the 2018/19 EFL Championship season, Sheffield United will look to bounce back when they take on Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.

The Blades succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Swansea City at the Bramall Lane on Saturday in their season opener, with late strikes from Oli McBurnie and Yan Dhanda cancelling out a George Baldock goal. And manager Chris Wilder will be hoping that his side put the defeat behind and take home all three points when they visit the Riverside Stadium on Tuesday.

Team News

Jake Wright and Ricky Holmes are likely to be the only absentees for Wilder’s team heading into Tuesday’s trip. Wright is recovering from a facial injury sustained during pre-season while Holmes is set to join Oxford United on loan. Ben Woodburn, on loan from Liverpool, could be in line for his first start for the Blades.

Probable Sheffield United XI

Manager: Chris Wilder

Formation: 3-4-1-2

Dean Henderson (GK)

On loan from Manchester United, the goalkeeper had a strong campaign with Shrewsbury Town last season and will be hoping to impress this time out too.

Chris Basham (CB)

The 30-year-old Englishman is likely to continue as one of Wilder’s three centre-backs against Boro for the midweek encounter.

Chris Basham

John Egan (CB)

Arriving from Brentford this summer, the Irish centre-back has what it takes to be an excellent acquisition for United. A definite starter.

Jack O’Connell (CB)

Held in high regards by the manager, the 24-year-old Jack O’Connell should complete the three-man backline for the Blades on Tuesday.

George Baldock (RWB)

Having scored the only goal for his team on Saturday, George Baldock will be hoping to improve on that display against Middlesbrough.

George Baldock

Lee Evans (CM)

A mainstay in the middle of the park for the Blades, the 24-year-old Lee Evans should once again feature from the get-go at the Riverside.

John Fleck (CM)

The Scottish midfielder should continue to partner up with Evans in central midfield against the Teessiders on Tuesday.

Enda Stevens (LWB)

The 28-year-old Irishman had a decent game last time out against the Swans and will hope to impress once again as the left-sided wing-back for the Blades.

Ben Woodburn (CAM)

The 18-year-old Liverpool loanee did not start on Saturday against Swansea. But with United looking short of creativity during that game, Wilder should hand the Welshman his first start for the team.

Ben Woodburn

David McGoldrick (ST)

Signed on a free transfer this summer, the 30-year-old started over Billy Sharp this past weekend and should do so again on Tuesday.

Leon Clarke (ST)

Having plundered 19 goals in the 2017/18 season, the 33-year-old Leon Clarke will once again be key for Sheffield United heading into the new campaign and is a certainty to start at the top.
