According to a report in the Birmingham mail, Wolves have been tipped to sign Lazio’s Wallace. Wolves are yet to make a signing of any note and Wallace would definitely be a great signing for the side from the Molineaux.
Wallace has been at Lazio since the 2016/17 season. The Brazilian has steadily been one of the most reliable and consistent defenders in the Serie A for the last few years. He is a youth product of Brazilian club Cruzeiro. He then joined Portuguese club, Braga. It’s common for South American players to start their careers in Europe in Portugal and Wallace is no different.
However, he never played a game for Braga and was then loaned to AS Monaco in the 2014 season before being purchased by Lazio. Wallace has all the attributes of a modern-day centre-back. He’s tall, strong, very good on the ball and has the recovery speed.
Wallace is left-footed and, like Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves side, plays in a back-three system under Simone Inzaghi.
He usually plays as the right-sided centre-back but would be perfectly capable of playing any defensive position, possibly even as a full-back.
He’s a very good footballer in general and would possibly even fit in as a holding midfielder in a four-man defence. Wolves have a fairly settled backline with the likes of Ryan Bennett, Conor Coady and Wily Boly leading that three-man defence.
Nuno Espirito Santo doesn’t like to shuffle his first-team squad a lot and likes to keep a hold of a small squad and fill it with as much quality as possible. Wallace would definitely be in line with those principles and would help Santo navigate the fixtures for next season.
Wolves get underway earlier than most other sides due to the Europa League qualifiers and will have to travel a lot if they are to qualify during the latter stages of the season. The fatigue might catch up with the squad and it is important that there be depth in the squad to last the whole season while also progressing in the coming season.
