Wolves signing this 23-year-old Lyon star would be a very good move by Nuno Espirito Santo

Why Wolves should sign full-back Kenny Tete from Lyon

According to a report in Birmingham Mail, Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with a move for Lyon full-back Kenny Tete. The 23-year-old is suggested to be tired of the lack of opportunities in France and is eager to try his luck in England.

Wolves will face some stiff competition from Spanish side Real Betis and Turkish giants Galatasaray if they are to sign the player.

Tete is a player who embarrassed Neymar when the Brazilian tried to trick himself past the defender but the latter nonchalantly knocked the ball in between the world’s most expensive player’s legs to shine up his moment.

Here’s why Wolves should sign the Dutch international sooner than later:

Tete could suit the way Nuno sets up his team

We all know the system Nuno Espirito Santo deploys while fielding his Wolves team. The 3-4-3 formation is a defence-first structure, that is pretty good on the counter with wing-backs creating the width and the three forwards narrowing up to trouble the opposition centre-backs.

To be fair to the Molineux-based team, they have done a remarkable job in their first season back in the Premier League so far. They are currently eighth in the table and have a real chance of finishing in the top seven come the end of this season.

However, the squad depth needs a bit more strengthening if they are to last a full season. Wing-back is an important position in this system, as they are the ones who provide width on the counter and be orthodox full-backs while defending.

Wolves have Jonny Otto and Ruben Vinagre taking turns to play the left-hand side role, but Matt Doherty is the only right wing-back in the team. Jonny did play there against Leicester but the Spaniard looks more suited to playing on the left.

Hence, it is clearly evident that the team needs a back-up for Doherty. And they can get that by signing Kenny Tete. The Dutchman is an Ajax graduate and loves to go forward from the full-back position at every given opportunity.

The wing-back role would suit him as the freedom for attack will be more given that there are three centre-backs to cover the counter-attack. Just like Doherty, the 23-year-old is a goal-contributing full-back, who can be relied on to create chances for the attacking players. His pace is frightening, especially when unleashed on the break.
