Wolves opinion: Nuno Santo should sign Yacine Brahimi

According to reports in Birmingham Live, Wolverhampton Wanderers are looking to add Yacine Brahimi to their list of stars but have Everton rivalling them to his signature.

The 29-year old is an Algerian international who plays for Nuno Espirito Santo’s former team, FC Porto. Brahimi is a flexible resource and can play either on the wing or as an attacking midfielder.

Brahimi is a technically gifted player and has been one of Porto’s stand out players over the last few years. He joined the Portuguese outfit in the 2014/15 season and has been going from strength to strength ever since.

The best aspect to his game are his dribbling skills, making him extremely unpredictable and capable of producing moments of pure magic. He was also awarded the African footballer of the year in 2014 by the BBC. In his 139 appearances for Porto, he has scored 36 goals.

Brahimi has played alongside one of Wolves’ best players in Ruben Neves so that should help him settle in quickly and as stated earlier, he’ll be used to the Portuguese influence in the dressing room with Nuno Espírito Santo at the helm, who managed him for one season in 2016/17.

The Portuguese tactician will be hoping he can build on last season’s highly impressive performances and possibly make a top-4 spot. Wolves were a match for anyone in the top-6 when they faced one another, getting some big scalps in Manchester United, Chelsea and Spurs on the way.

They struggled against teams with a defensive block like Huddersfield Town and Cardiff City and will need someone with a little bit of quality to unlock defences and Brahimi would fit in perfectly.

Wolves are a very attractive team but they’re still a very functional team using the likes of Diogo Jota and Raul Jimenez as their forwards.

The pair are hard-working but lack world-class skill. Wolves also start the season earlier than everyone else in the Premier League due to their Europa League qualifiers and will be hoping they can sign players before those games.

Conclusion

They’ve now got a chance to become a bigger force and will be hoping with the signings of players like Yacine Brahimi, they can go to the next level.

With other top teams like Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea in a vulnerable position with new managers, Wolves will be sniffing for that elusive Champions League spot.
