According to a report from Fanatik, Wolverhampton Wanderers are preparing a January move for Kasimpasa forward Mbaye Diagne in January. Kasimpasa have set the price for Diagne at €10million.
The Senegalese, 27, was playing in China for Tianjin Teda before heading to Turkey to join Kasimpasa in January this year, and has been turning heads lately. Mbaye Diagne has hit his stride in Turkey, scoring 11 goals and assisting two in 11 games.
Last season, he finished with 12 goals in 17 games for Kasimpasa, and this season’s blistering form has attracted the attention of Wolverhampton Wanderers. Wolves have made a good start to the season under Nuno Espirito Santo, but three successive defeats have put the break on their progress.
The Black Country outfit have not been extremely potent going forward despite signing some exciting attacking players in the summer. Wolves have registered just 11 goals in as many league matches so far, which is a disappointing return particularly with the quality Nuno has in his squad.
Raul Jimenez, on loan from Benfica, is currently the club’s leading goal-scorer with 3 goals but the Mexican has not found enough support up front. The likes of Helder Costa, Adama Traore and Diogo Jota are yet to hit their strides in the Premier League and their lack of contribution in the final third has overburdened Jimenez.
Wolves certainly need another striker to reduce Jimenez’s workload up top. Keeping that in mind, a move for Mbaye Diagne would make perfect sense in January.
The Senegalese hitman has been in top form this season, scoring goals left, right and centre in Turkey. He’s already plundered 23 goals in 30 games for Kasimpasa, including 11 in 11 this season. Diagne is a late bloomer, having previously failed to impress in loan spells at AC Ajaccio, Lierse, Al-Shabab and Westerlo.
Standing at 6ft 3in, Diagne uses his pace and physicality to dominate defenders, aerially as well as on the ground. He is filled pace and power, excels at holding up the play to bring his teammates into the game. The Senegalese marksman’s strength and aerial ability could give Nuno’s side a very different dimension at Wolves.
Furthermore, Diagne is a predator in the box and is clinical when it comes to one on one situations. Exceptionally versatile and capable of operating on either flank, the 27-year-old would be a perfect fit for Nuno’s style of play at the Molineux. He is the type of player who could bring moments of magic to Wolves’ play in the final third.
Hence, Nuno should do everything in his powers to sign Diagne in January to bolster his attacking ranks.
