West Ham United were brilliant last season under Slaven Bilic. West Ham will move into the Olympic Stadium with European football and plenty of optimism. Bilic has managed to bring the entertainment, which was missed under Sam Allardyce, back to the club. He has been instrumental in bringing the fans closer to the team, with entertaining and attacking football. It has been widely reported that the Hammers are looking for a big money striker, a 20 goal season striker who can fire West Ham closer to the top four.
One of the main reasons for West Ham’s success last year was due to their quality and strength in depth in the squad. But with Alex Song, Emmanuel Emineke and Victor Moses all set to return to their parent clubs and Diafra Sakho seemingly on his way out, Bilic will need to bring in quality reinforcements for the next season. It has already been a very fruitful transfer window for the east London club, having already signed the likes of Sofiane Feghouli and Havard Nordtveit. Here we look at the possible starting XI Bilic can deploy next year.
Goalkeeper: Adrian
No need to worry here, Adrian has been superb for West Ham over the past two-and-a-half seasons. The Spaniard will remain as the first choice custodian of the Hammers next season with Randolph playing his part as the cup goalkeeper.
Defense: Michail Antonio, Winston Reid, Angelo Ogbonna and Aaron Cresswell
With so many wingers in the team, Michail might have to again settle for a play in the back line. Although he looked shaky at times, the fact that Bilic isn’t pursuing a right back, shows the trust he has in him. Winston Reid and Angelo Ogbonna formed a solid first choice centre abck pairing last season, though the New Zealander suffered with injuries last campaign, he still remains the best defender the club has got. Aaron Cresswell will be the undisputed choice in the left-back position.
Midfield: Cheikhou Kouyate, Mark Noble, Dimitri Payet, Manuel Lanzini and Sofiane Feghouli
Kouyate and Noble formed an excellent defensive midfield pairing last season, where they were superb at screening the back four. Kouyate is a strong central midfielder, who will find a place in almost all of the teams in the Premier League. Anything we say about Payet will not justify the talent he posses. THE Frenchman was excellent for the Hammers last season. He has become a fan favourite in no time and Bilic knows that if he wants to compete with the best, he will need to keep this jewel away from the big clubs. Lanzini’s place in the team is under doubt after the arrival of Sofiane Feghouli but the Argentine footballer is expected to start in the number 10 role with the Algerian on the right wing.
Attack: Alexandre Lacazette
Bilic is desperately searching for a striker, who is capable of leading the line with such creative talent supplying him from the back. One name which is being linked with a move to the Olympic Stadium is Alexandre Lacazette. The Lyon striker has been superb over the past few seasons and is rated amongst the best.
