Why Wolves Should Quickly Tie This Talented 20-Year Old Winger To A Permanent Deal

Why Wolves Should Consider Signing Diogo Jota On A Permanent Basis

During Wolves’ excellent, but not unexpected start to the season one of their star performers has undoubtedly been their on-loan Portuguese winger Diogo Jota.

With 6 goals from 11 appearances in the Championship, mostly from the left wing, his performances thus far have been crucial to Wolves’ cause. Given that his pass completion rate is above 78% and that he has made 2.4 successful take-ons per game and has chipped in with an assist, it’s obvious who the club’s most valuable player is right now.

As things stand, Jota is on loan at Molineux until next summer anyway, though reports right now claim that the Midland club are looking to tie up a permanent deal for the 20-year-old in January.

Similar to the deal which brought Helder Costa to the club for £13m, Wolves are keen to take early advantage of the exclusivity in this deal which gives them first refusal on Jota. The question really is though; will Jota want to commit?

By the time January rolls around, if Wolves look good for promotion to the Premier League, that alone would most likely make Jota think about sticking around for the ride. If that turns out to be the case, Wolves, by all means should take full advantage of the current agreement at the turn of the year and get him on a full-time basis.

It’s already easy to name at least half a dozen or more teams in the English Premier League who would find a place for Jota in their team right now, so it goes without saying that his quality in the Championship is outstanding. It is no guarantee that he would not have his head turned by a bigger club if Wolves leave this deal hanging around.

When playing on the left or the centre of Wolverhampton’s attack, his performance truly marks him out as a player playing below his real level. Bearing in mind that he is 20 and can only get better in the English game, and that you have on your hands a player who will be mighty close to playing in next summer’s World Cup, it is a no brainer for Wolves to sign him up permanently.

The way the current transfer market is, should Jota achieve what he is well on the way to achieving, then he’ll be a player priced out of even Wolves’ grasp. True, they already have a buy option, but there is also the young man’s wages to consider and he will have the right to turn the club down if he wishes to. I’d say get him on board ASAP!
