Why West Ham United Must Beat Brighton And Everton To Sign Celtic Star Moussa Dembele

West Ham United were interested in a move for £27m-rated Celtic striker Moussa Dembele over the summer but the player chose to stay back with the Scottish giants. Now, with the winter window fast approaching, Dembele is being linked with a move to the Premier League once more.

Besides the Hammers, clubs like Brighton and Everton are also interested in his signature and it will be interesting to see which club ultimately signs him. While it might be tough for David Moyes to navigate through the added competition, it is extremely important for him to snap Dembele up.

The club made a rather dismal start to the Premier League season this time and endured some tough situations. A slew of disappointing performances got Slaven Bilic sacked and they eventually appointed Moyes as the new manager.

The former Manchester United manager has been making some changes but they continue to be relegation-threatened. Currently sitting at 17th place, West Ham need to start winning more games in order to get to a truly secure place. In fact, securing their top-flight status this season should be a major priority for Moyes and to do so, a player like Dembele could provide a massive boost.

Although they signed Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez in the summer, the Hammers have shown very little goalscoring threat. In their recent draw against Bournemouth, West Ham did score 3 goals and even scored a 4th one but it was wrongly disallowed.

These are encouraging signs to be sure but going forward, they will need a stronger talent to lead the line – preferably someone like Dembele who is an out-and-out striker. They missed a chance to score 3 points against Bournemouth but they cannot afford to miss so after the winter window.

The 21-year-old striker is widely regarded as one of the best young talents across Europe and for good reasons. His goalscoring exploits refuse to slow down and he has excelled on every level for Celtic. Over the summer, it is understandable that they did not want to lose their prized possession but they might find it increasingly tough to hold on to him as time goes by. Also, the fact that he will get to play alongside experienced personnel like Arnautovic and Hernandez is likely to be another factor that would lead to his development.

As far as long-term prospects go, Dembele does seem like a good choice. Even from a business standpoint, the deal makes sense because the youngster’s resale value will be a lot greater than what Arnautovic or Hernandez can bring in. Hence, West Ham should recognise this opportunity and go all out to land him in January.
