Watford opinion: Watford should keep hold of Dodi Lukebakio in the summer

According to the Watford Observer, Fortuna Düsseldorf are trying to set up a meeting with Watford to discuss the possibility of signing Dodi Lukebakio on a permanent deal.

The Belgian joined the Bundesliga outfit on a season-long loan deal and has impressed the Die Flingeraner, having scored 12 goals in all competitions so far. Javi Gracia and Watford would be foolish to let the 21-year old move, especially with their talisman Troy Deeney turning 31 this summer.

A versatile forward who can play across the front line, Lukebakio has been primarily used on the left wing this campaign. His pace and power down the flanks have been super effective for Fortuna this campaign and his presence in the Premier League would be highly beneficial for the Hornets.

The Belgian combines his pace and power with exceptional dribbling, and with his quick feet, he has managed to outfox most of the opposition. His ambidextrous nature is a massive threat in the attacking areas not just to score, but also to deliver brilliant crosses into the box.

Another highly dangerous threat that Lukebakio provides is his long shots which very rarely miss their mark. The accuracy he manages to find with very little back lift causes a ton of problems to the opposition and he is a real asset to his team.

Summer recruit Gerard Deulefeu and former Juventus midfielder Roberto Pereyra have been brilliant for Watford since their arrival but Lukebakio will offer something considerably different and is arguably a massive upgrade over Ken Sema and Issac Success in terms of end product.

Given the Belgian’s ability to play on both wings and up top in place of Troy Deeney or Andre Gray, Watford have a real gem in their hands and selling him for any amount would be a massive mistake.

Conclusion

Watford are doing well this season, level on points with 7th-placed Wolves. With the possibility of European adventure next season, they will need serious depth in their squad.

Even if Lukebakio doesn’t make Javi Gracia’s starting eleven, he is a fantastic option to come on from the bench and cause serious damage to the opposition.

Watford letting Lukebakio go without giving him a proper run in the first-team will prove to be a costly mistake and they will regret that decision.
