Why Timo Werner would be a perfect signing for Lampard’s Chelsea

The Sun (h/t Marca) suggests that Chelsea have placed RB Leipzig star Timo Werner on their radar.

After a successful attempt to cut-short their two-window transfer imposed by FIFA, Chelsea are looking to strengthen their squad in the upcoming transfer window.

Academy graduates Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham, Reece James, and Callum Hudson-Odoi have been introduced in the starting line-up this season. They have done a decent job so far and the Blues would be aiming to finish the season in a good way.

In spite of the youngsters performing without any hindrance, Frank Lampard would be looking to add depth in his squad as they need to be more effective when the season gets tougher in the latter half.

Recently, he was referred to as the ‘German Lewandowski’ by media in Germany, according to the Daily Mail. He is considered to be Bundesliga’s hottest prospect and by putting inconsistent performances, Werner would dominate the headlines soon.

The German international would fit into Lampard’s squad with ease. He has got immense experience to play at the highest level and is known to be confident whenever he takes to the pitch. His goalscoring prowess has been proved in Germany.

In 13 games this season, Werner has scored 13 goals and has 5 assists to his name already. Leipzig are currently 2^nd in the league standings and under Julian Nagelsmann, Werner seems to have become a lethal striker who can finish in style.

At Chelsea, playing alongside other youngsters, Werner might find it easy to cope with the team. His versatility shows he can play anywhere in the forward line and this would be of immense help to Lampard, who has trusted the youngsters to ensure the Blues’ reign at the top.

The 23-year-old is known for his pace and is known to be a threat during counter-attacks. In the Bundesliga this season, Werner has registered 3.8 shots, 2 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per game. He has enjoyed a passing accuracy of 77.9%, according to Whoscored.
