Makes Sense? – Why Jota Should Ignore Hull And Sign For Middlesbrough Instead

In swapping Harry Maguire, Andy Robertson, Sam Clucas, Robert Snodgrass, Curtis Davies and Tom Huddlestone for the likes of Kevin Stewart, Fraizer Campbell and Seb Larsson over the past eighteen months, things have taken a dive at Hull City.

They remain ambitious though and as well as looking to bring in Leicester City’s Ahmed Musa, there is talk that they will attempt to sign Brentford’s star forward Jota. There is a competition though from Middlesbrough who are also interested and have already had a bid turned down.

Jota scored or created a goal every 100 minutes in the Championship last term in what was a real coming of age season and it seems like he is ready for the step up to bigger things now. The 26-year-old is just beginning to show signs of peaking and now would be the time to step in and sign him for a reasonable price, something both Hull and Boro are keen to do.

Jota has gained some valuable experience in Spain, keeping good company at the likes of Celta Vigo and Real Madrid before moving to England where he has now settled in and knows what to expect. His style of play would be ideal for Boro and he’d fit in there no problem. The fact that the club also has a better chance of promotion than Hull makes sense to head to the Riverside.

This is the sort of signing which can look incredibly clever over time, with players of Jota’s ability routinely going for £30million so long as they have been playing for a Premier League team. If a deal can be done, it will be incredibly positive for Garry Monk and his team and could represent the final piece of his promotion jigsaw on Teesside.

Hull City are a club going backwards at this particular point, not to be cruel of course, but it’s there for all to see. If things are not right at the club then you cannot blame certain players for leaving. But the fact remains that the players they’ve brought in are absolutely nowhere near the quality of the ones they have let go and so this season could represent another backward step after relegation from the Premier League.

Should Jota choose to leave Brentford, it would only be worth doing so for a club with great ambition and more chance of success, with success, in this case, being the promotion to the top flight and that is something Boro look capable of offering.
