Why This Loan Move For Arsenal Star Could Benefit Everyone Involved

Wojciech-Szczesny-Smoking

With the arrival of Petr Cech, Arsenal more or less closed the door as to who would be the number one goalkeeper at the club. The coffin was more of less closed for Wojciech Szczesny, the Polish goalkeeper. Szczesny didn’t end last season in the best of ways and his father’s quotes about Wenger didn’t help either.

The goalkeeper also didn’t have the best season in goal for Arsenal and even saw his place being taken up by new arrival David Ospina. Szczesny might have found a way to save his career and still play at the top level. It is set for him to leave Arsenal and move to Roma on loan with a view to a permanent move. We think this move would suit both Szczesny and Arsenal perfectly.

Rome is home

Wojciech, at one time, was one of the best goalkeepers in the league, while he always had a problem in terms of physicality and coming for the ball from corners or crosses, he still is an excellent shot-stopper, especially when it comes to one-on-one situations.

We all remember how Gervinho faired when he shifted to Roma; he found a new lease of life under Rudy Garcia and Szczesny could be the next in line when it comes to this. The goalkeeper certainly would prefer moving away from Arsenal, especially to a club where he will be the number one goalkeeper without a doubt.

Szczesny would also like the fact that there will not be much pressure on him and not a lot of expectations. He is moving on a loan and that will help take a lot of pressure from his performances. Szczesny would also be hopeful of a better chance at a league title, of course Juventus will be the team to watch but Roma did have a great chance of doing well in the league a couple of seasons ago and they will be hoping that Szczesny can lead them to some sort of glory.

The deal would be ideal for both club and player, both would be happy as they get what they want. Szczesny gets a chance to do well for a top team and Arsenal can get rid of someone who could have been a great player for them but some things aren’t meant to be.

Speaking ahead of the Emirates cup, Wenger explained about the goalkeeping situation while underlining that Szczesny still has a future at Arsenal.

“He could go on loan to Roma,” Wenger said at his pre-Emirates Cup press conference. “We are pretty much done, it’s down to paperwork. As long as that’s not over the line, anything can happen.

“Szczesny is a top-class goalkeeper and we have three top goalkeepers. If one of the goalkeepers can play somewhere then it’s good.

“I believe he will have a future at Arsenal because I personally rate him highly. I put him in the first team at the age of 20 and he already has huge experience.

So it looks like Wenger has the Polish shot-stopper in his minds for the future and for the time being Petr Cech will stand firm between the sticks. This is ruthless from Wenger, simply because of the fact that he is keeping his options open for everyone, including reserve keeper Emiliano Martinez. The next year could be crucial for everyone involved before Wenger decides on who to let go. This will give enough time to see Ospina, who will be the second choice behind Cech and enough playing time for Szczesny.
