Why This Fan Favourite Arsenal Star Does Not Have A Future At The Club And Why Cashing On Him Is The Best For Everyone

Share

Wojciech Szczesny was responsible for messing up his career at Arsenal when things were going good for him, after making a bright start at a young age for the Gunners under manager Arsene Wenger. The Polish international was caught smoking in the showers and was given a warning at first. Eventually some on field antics got him in the spotlight for the wrong reasons once again and he was in trouble, eventually being dropped permanently and replaced by David Ospina as the club’s number one keeper.

Further, the North London outfit signed Petr Cech from Chelsea last summer, as they looked to win more titles and made him their first choice keeper, with Ospina being the backup. Szczesny was eventually sent to play in Rome on loan in the summer of last season, as he was deemed surplus to the team’s needs.

The 26 year old superstar has since then made a total of 31 appearances for the Serie A giants and seems to be quite content with where he is at the moment, as he has settled in well.

There were also recent reports coming in that the player himself wanted to move away from the Emirates and make his deal with AS Roma, a permanent one. Even if the keeper did return to England, it would be of no use as he would only be warming the bench and not playing regular football, which would frustrate him even further.

Also, Szczesny has helped the Italian outfit in their quest to secure qualification for the Champions League and is quite content where he is at present. It seems highly unlikely that he will recalled to Arsenal, as the two clubs are already in talks with each other over his future.

A fan favourite and well known for his confident style of keeping and command over the back-line, Szczesny will surely be missed and hopefully he can become a world-class keeper someday, though he is quite good already. Talking about making his stay at the Stadio Olimpico a permanent one, the Poland international, who has 25 caps to his name for his country, recently stated,

“It’s not all up to me, obviously”

“I want it to happen, and I know Roma and Arsenal are talking about it.”

It will be a tough choice for Wenger to make, though the boss knows that it will be in the best interest of both the player and the club to push through for a deal. The Londoners can look to cash in on their star, who still has a long way to go in his career. Sending him out on loan would not benefit them and the goalie has already decided what he wants, so retaining him is also pointless.
