Why Karlan Grant solve Huddersfield Town’s goalscoring woes

According to a report from BBC, Huddersfield Town signed Karlan Grant from Charlton Athletic in the January transfer window.

Karlan Grant scored 14 goals in 29 appearances this season in League One for the promotion-chasing Addicks. His blistering form didn’t go unnoticed and Huddersfield Town have captured the 21-year-old’s signature despite Charlton trying everything to keep hold of their prized asset.

The forward signed a deal until 2022 with the Terriers, who are bottom of the Premier League, 12 points from safety, scoring just 13 goals this season.

Manager Jan Siewert, who replaced David Wagner last month, started his Huddersfield adventure with a 1-0 loss at home to Everton earlier this week.

The Terriers look destined for the drop this season and only a miracle from here on can save them, meaning Jan Siewert has an uphill task on his shoulders.

As Huddersfield have been the lowest scorers in the Premier League this season with just 13 goals, the German tactician did well to bolster his attacking options with the signing of Karlan Grant last month. The Terriers have lacked productivity in the final third and Grant would provide their attack with a much-needed cutting edge.

Grant has everything in his repertoire which a striker might need as he is strong on the ball and showcases terrific pace, agility and intelligence that belie his age.

The 21-year-old can be a handful for the defenders due to his intelligent movement and speed. That combined with the fact that he is a workhorse and is extremely efficient from set-pieces simply adds to his value.

However, he is very young and has no Premier League experience, hence, Grant’s arrival is purely a gamble for Huddersfield. Grant might have scored plenty of goals for Charlton this season in League One but the Premier League is a completely different kettle of fish and reproducing the goods would be extremely difficult.

It would be a complete injustice to depend entirely on the young Grant for goals but if he does contribute with 7 or 8 goals until the end of the campaign, Huddersfield would get a massive boost to their outside chance of beating the drop.
